Here is a quick video on how to do the ESP defeat. I'm doing this on a 2010 manual GTI with the AM version. It should be the same process for 2010s and 2011s, but the AH isn't the same. I'm not responsible if anything occurs while you change anything on VCDS.

The Fixer
He told me pumps ending in AH and AJ have a different function. I can confirm this works on the 10 GTI.
ABS Brakes, coding, long coding helper, change byte 16 to 3C. Our DSG car had hill assist enabled, so I checked that back and it changed to 3D. So I hit 'DO IT!' and it worked. Previously showed B5 for that byte. I will also have to attend autox to see the difference.

I had a feeling it was a simple change, had no idea it would be this easy. He told me a colleague figured it out and they are testing other pumps. If people can post their year and pump version that works, I can update the first post.

Please have them look at the AH ones... I can be a test subject if they need it.

I have a 2011 TDI with ABS module 1K0907379BC and it did not work. Bit 16 was originally B7. B7 changes to B3 when I uncheck the TPMS, but it will not accept the changes unless TPMS is enabled.

Edit1:
B7 = 10110111 = Hill Hold & TPMS enabled
B3 = 10110011 = Hill Hold Enabled, TPMS disabled

3C = 00111100 = ?
3D = 00111101 = Hill Hold enabled, TPMS enabled
39 = 00111001 = Hill Hold enabled, TPMS disabled

Edit2:
I changed byte 16 from B7 to 3D. It isn't a 2 stage TCS/ESP button; it changed the button to ESP disabled or ESP/TCS Active. I really have no use for disabling TCS, so atleast I have a functional button now. I got a rather strange ABS fault after flashing it to 3D:

02186 - Engine <-> ADR Interface
004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent

I can't find much info on ADR interface, but I cleared it. We shall see if it returns.

Mine has B7 also in the coding, did you just try changing it to 3c in the new long coding instead of changing it through the long coding helper? I will have to check if I still have hill assist.

This is my abs module information from my previous post

And the coding changes if you want to put that in the sticky.
My old coding byte 16

New Coding I put in long coding:

EDIT: I messed with it again, and I am using 3D now which keeps hill assist and the abs based TPMS. I think 39 will keep hill assist, but disable TPMS. I was doing it in a hurry, but you can probably mess with the settings and verify. My battery is weakening so I will probably wait until next week until I get the new battery before I mess with it some more. (it's cheaper at the dealer than the autoparts store so I set up an appointment lol)

zrickety are you still on your original control module? mine is bad and i'm wondering if picking a specific replacement will let me jump on this. i was originally looking to see if a 2012+ module could be swapped in to enable the esp defeat.
