I’ve been running Pennzoil Platinum 0w-40 for a while now, I switched from Mobil 1 a few oil changes ago. I suspect that the Pennzoil is a touch less viscous (thicker) because my engine uses/loses less oil and feels smoother than it did with Mobil 1.

As has been said, good oil is good oil. I don’t think you can really go wrong with any of the popular name brand options.

Thanks fellas, just did the carbon cleaning done for her after 125k kms and the car feels smooth now. Gonna try the shell ultra helix since I already purchased it and will be sticking to 5W40.

Having blown a turbo 20 miles after a dealer oil change on my TDI I have to say that on a high mileage car oil weight may actually be something to think about. The mechanic that replaced the turbo said likely they used a lighter weight oil by mistake. The turbo shaft (90K miles) was also likey already worn and the lighter weight oil may have been the final blow. After this experience I tend to stick with the recommended weight.
