Bumping this old thread. Funny that I was in here 8 years ago... it appears my intake balance shaft seized, and is causing my overheating problem (turns the water pump). Now to find a replacement that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Where did you get your parts?
Zrick, I suspect I have a similar issue. So much to say, might not even be worth typing it all out.
DM?

Anytime bro, I am happy to help. Your engine might run with a seized shaft, that chain will break but the others will keep working. It will overheat quick, don't drive far.

Doubt chain broke, cuz I drove 13hr no problem on heat, but the car would get a "check oil pressure" light whenever I decelerated hard (think pulling into a gas station, stopping because of traffic, etc) and if I slowed down hard enough, the car would stall (which happened twice).
Ticking noise (coming from timing cover) at low idle too... car doesn't struggle to idle, and when driving, there aren't any vibrations (which ppl mention happen when balance shafts fail)
I'm leaning toward bad camshaft vvt system, but idk why the car would stall so hard under decel... maybe camshaft and also clogged oil pickup... who knows...

These are odd symptoms. I had a bad radiator fan that I think was thinning out the oil, fixing that fixed my oil pressure issue. Are you sure it's not fuel related?

Yes, fuel issue wouldn't cause timing issue. One of my radiator fans is bad, but the car doesn't overheat, and idk how that would thin out the oil (car gets hotter?) My temps are stable. You should check my build thread, I tagged you. Page 5 for those viewing this in the future.
