2013 Volkswagen gti timing warranty?

Question: how much of a stretch does your timing chain have to be for it to qualify to be covered under the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty?

I had my timing measured by a Volkswagen specialist shop not a Volkswagen dealer and its at a 4.88 stretch. He he recommended me to replace as 5.00 stretch can cause damage or skip a tooth. He told me to verify with Volkswagen to see if my car is covered by that warranty as its 2,500$ job n would save me a good bit of money he said. I called Volkswagen and they want like 150$ for them to do a diagnose on it and see if its bad enough to be replaced under warranty. I work for a dealer ship so i know how it goes with warrantys as they always try to fight it at times. And was wondering if any vw techs or any one knows what qualifies for it to be covered under warranty?

I do have a after market intake and clutch witch also makes me think it wont qualify as i worked in a dealer ship as i stated before and warranty companies sometimes will try to do anything to no replace it

$150 to diagnose? So their own technician, who I'm guessing you already paid, isn't skilled enough to make that determination? Will they give you that money back?

I dunno............if it was me, and my stretch was at 4.88 I'd have it done immediately, as this appears to be near redline for a disaster. That;s a lot of stretch for an engine with only 78k. You say you went to a VW specialist shop? So presumably they measured your chain stretch with VCDS or the VW shop version. Sounds legit to me, so what are you waiting for? If you want a VW blessing that they'll pay for it you may have a long wait, and your engine appears to be on borrowed time.

$2500 for just a timing chain replacement? Sounds a little much but i did the job myself as a DIY. Check out other independent shops and shop around. At the end of the day you are not dealing with a full engine replacement at the moment that would cost you way more.

If they determine that the repair needs to be done they usually waive the diagnosis fee. A lot of people get hosed this way though when they go yep looks like nothing wrong lol.

Also IIRC the 2013 GTIs didn't get the 10/100k timing chain warranty extension. Which is bullshit because although they still had the updated tensioner the chain itself could still wear. Might want to def call VWOA with your VIN to confirm if they changed it, cuz would suck to eat the $150 for no reason. Thankfully now though theres some much info online and videos of people doing timing chain jobs its not too bad. I did mine for a good price and you can buy the TSI timing tool kits from China for like $40.
