It got locked :bellyroll:

Yeah to paraphrase the Cure in disintegration, we always knew how the ending would be - surprised the Nazi mods let it go on for as long as it did.

Yeah, there are civic fanboi's... But at the same time there are more civic enthusiasts that track their cars and enter into time attack challenges around the country.

Because of this there are endless tuning companies that make things from bigger radiators, oil coolers, camber plates, bushings, roll cages, light weight parts because of input from the number of enthusiasts that track.

Most of the mods we have are just 1/4 at a time mods... I'm hoping to change that with my track exploits, but running into road blocks cause off the shelf aftermarket parts for other cars have to be fabricated for my car.

Last time at button willow there where several civics/ integras running 2:10's to 2:12's in the speed ventures Honda fwd challenge... I think there may even have been a few running sub 2:10's... (otoh at fastivus there where a few MKIV GTI's and R32's even as low as 2:00 around the track... But that's cause there's more track oriented mods for the MKIV)

The GTI definitely has lots of potential much more potential than the civic... Just seems to lack in the same kind of shops and aftermarket support found in other cars...

I think your first point relates directly to your second, both of which are true. A bigger enthusiast community is able to support a more robust performance parts market. As more MKVIs and Vs get tracked, more products of the kind you're looking for will get developed and marketed. Just sucks for you that they're not out there right now - you're definitely a pioneer

I have been a Honda and VW owner for a long time. But let's face it, the Civic lacks what the GTI has most, Torque...........

The jalopnik article was funny, and this quote sums up the annoying quality of any group of fanbois: "We could forgive the bad paintjobs, loud exhausts, and painful bodykits, but we can't excuse the snobby attitude, especially when the stakes are so low in bargain sports compacts."

wow! had no idea some honda owners knew so damn much about GTIs..

There's quite a bit of cross pollination. Some of those guys on 8th gen are/were VW owners, and quite a few of the guys on this forum have owned SIs. Honestly, I think GTI and SIs are two of the iconic compact performance/hatch cars, and I can think of super clean examples of both, and riced out travesties of both. Go look at the ricer spotted thread and see what I mean.

I think us Si and GTI owners have a lot more in common than we think. Like someone else said, the two cars are both iconic sports compacts, that are great in their own way. For every Si or GTI fan boy who despises the other, there will always be twice as many Mustang/Camaro/etc drivers who look down on both, or anything that isn't a v8 (or at least a v6).

I find it humorous when people look down on another car, just because they are under the assumption that theirs is better. No matter what you drive there will always be something better/faster.

This made me laugh:

second of all, no, his stage 3 gti only being a half sec quicker than my si doesnt seem odd, becausee my si is considerably lighter, its already 300 pound lighter than the gti to start with, plus i have some minor weight reduction (close to qpp pounds). idk why an si losing to a gti by like 2 car lengths is such a surprise.

third of all, i said ill dusst him around the track because i have 6 grand worth invessted in my suspension, and my car is a beast in the corners.

A close friend bought a 2011 4-dr Si about the same time as me. We were both cross-shopping multiple cars and had similar tastes - but he ended up with the Si, and myself the GTI. We've had a few highway encounters since I went stage 1 and to be honest from 60-80, on a 3rd or fourth gear pull hes only like a car length away. Thing is, the GTI becomes a rocketship beyond that and pulls way harder at higher speeds.

He almost bought a 2011 STI and I almost drove home a used 07' STI.

Wow, I read a good portion of the thread and I'll admit I'm somewhat surprised. I would have expected SI drivers to flame on the GTI all day but somehow that wasnt the case (for the most part) :D

I did love the post in reply to "Do GTI's come standard with a Polo Shirt with a Popped Collar ?"
"No, but they should come with a decal on the rear that says "Bye Bye, Si"....

Edit: Sorry for reviving an old thread haha, I didn't notice it was so old....in fact I'm not sure how I got here.....I think I'm addicted to this forum....
