Four doors, five cylinders, and 525 horsepower: this is the Audi A3 Clubsport quattro concept, Audi's contribution to the Volkswagen Group's annual Wörthersee crazy-fest in Germany. Could it be a taste of the Audi RS3 we want so bad?
On its own, the new Audi S3 is no slouch, putting out nearly 300 horsepower from its turbocharged 2.0-liter TFSI four. But this concept gets the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine featured in the outgoing TT RS and RS Q3 hot crossover.
How much power are we talking here? 525 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. Yeah, that'll do. That'll do just fine.
Audi says the Clubsport quattro will do zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.6 seconds and can't stop, won't stop (unless you use the brakes, of course) until it hits a top speed of 192 mph.
Other goodies include a seven-speed S-Tronic dual clutch gearbox, quattro all-wheel drive, obviously, an adjustable suspension, various interior tweaks, and a unique aero kit with a carbon fiber "blade" up front.
The A3 Clubsport quattro will be on display at Wörthersee along with the equally nutty Audi TT Quattro Sport concept from the Geneva show, the one with a 420 horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
More than anything, I'm hoping this is a preview of what we could get from a future RS3 sedan. Five cylinders all the way, baby!
