Best Oil to run w a K04

I’d wager that anything with the VW certification would be perfectly safe. It is a stock turbo for multiple other VAG cars.

They run a little hot with a K04. I run a full synthetic 5W-40.

That is a diesel oil, not the right weight/viscosity (should be 0-40, 5-40, or 5-30) and most importantly I am 99.99999% sure it does not carry the 502/504 VW spec. The specifications are not just random, they represent additives required based on manufacture designs and engine performance. The conditions inside a Cummins diesel vary vastly from those inside the VW 2.0L gasser.

As mentioned the K04 is a stock turbo for other VAG vehicles so anything with the VW 502/504 spec will be just fine. Going with a 0-40 or 5-40 would be best as GolNat stated due to higher pressures and heat.
