Just got a new to me GTI on Monday the 12th. Previous owner sold it to a dealer and they sent it to auction and then a dealer in the middle of nowhere Nebraska got their hands on it. Supposedly Unitronic Stage 2+ which means K04, Downpipe, Tune. Car just had little bits and pieces missing such as trim pieces, front speakers didn’t work, etc. Got to taking apart the front door and the previous owner had subs so he took his aftermarket tweeters out and installed the cover so there was nothing there, and the lower door speaker wasn’t connected to anything and I can’t seem to find anything to connect it to. I can live with no front speakers I won’t be driving it much once I go back to college so it’ll get fixed sometime next spring. He was also nice enough to leave all his sub and amp wiring still in the back of the trunk so i’m very grateful for that (sarcasm). I have code P0299 that pops up whenever I scan w OBD11 but no check engine light comes up on the dash. Any suggestions on where to look for a boost leak would be very appreciated.

Plans for this car within the next few weeks/months.
-New tune from EQT or Stratified w AP
-Intercooler
-New Front Badge and grille
-New Spark Plugs and Coilpacks
-Fix Front Bumper Alignment

Plans for next Spring/Summer
-New wheels
-Fix front door tweeters and speakers
-Coilovers
-Different Front and rear bumpers?
-Splitter and Diffuser
-Carbon spoiler extension

First couple things I changed were removing the yellow film over the fog lights, removing the red lines from the bumper, removing wrap of the tailights and rear badge, and also leaned up the headlights a bit. Excuse the dirty front bumper I had just driven the car home 500 miles the night before.

pretty big update.

my brother has also been looking for a gti but couldn’t find one in his price range and guess who’s gti was purchased in his range… mine so i decided to sell it to him and purchase a different gti.

my brother and i drove 5 hours to illinois to pick up my new one owner gti. had all the work done in things that usually go bad such as the timing chain. the owner was a really cool dude he’s from france and him and his wife are moving back to germany to retire.

within 2 days of me purchasing it some strafe designs side skirts popped up for a mk7 gti. they worked but i had to do a little bit of trimming i’ll snag a pic tomorrow morning. i also have a front splitter from ebay that i’m deciding whether or not to install. i would get a nicer one but it doesn't make sense to me because that’s what would take the most damage.

Does the one you swapped to have any of the fun, go-fast stuff as the first one you had? Or is it simply better put-together, i.e. the speakers work, and maybe fewer shortcuts, etc.?
I can see the appeal for both -- having a car that just works, and having a bucket of bolts that makes you smile.

nah the new one is stock asf. the previous owner was very anal about things. the only thing he changed were the springs and it was to koni, i believe they have some sort of automatic dampening or something that changes the way it handles automatically. i forgot what he told me it was. it’ll be more fun this way but take way longer due to me being in college. i’ll have to piece things together piece by piece. way less stressful than my previous one though. he had a lot of wires modified in it and idk anything abt wiring so i just leave it alone. also doesn’t have an underboost code pop up like the other one.

You did the right thing switching to a stocker. The first one was definitely clapped out with the shitty red trim, CEL and missing speakers. Who knows what else is installed wrong/chopped up

update

it’s been a while since i’ve posted. i’ve gotten really busy with classes these past 2 months and haven’t had a ton of time for my gti. i just purchased a intake and downpipe for the car and it should be coming in within a week or so. i’m really excited to finally start modifying the gti to make it mine. i’ll try to install them but it might be difficult doing it in a apartment parking lot. i probably won’t be driving it a ton during the winter so i’ll just save up and then buy a accessport, tune, and exhaust come spring.

update again

things took an unfortunate turn of events on the way home for break. i parked my car and came out a couple hours later to bring my stuff in and saw oil leaking. jacked it up and saw this. scheduled an appointment for the 27th to have it looked at. if it’s expensive i’ll be leaving the car at home and going back to college.

That's quite a pool. I hope it's nothing serious. I'm thinking it might be a rear main, but I hope not.

yea people have said it could be that (rms), oil filter housing, vacuum pump, dv. i just hope whichever it is it’s the cheapest out of all those.

dropped the car off this morning, turns out my pcv failed and then my rms(rear main seal) went with it as well. it’ll be done by next tuesday and cost me 1500 bones. realized if i don’t fix it i won’t be able to make money working so i need to fix it. it’s getting replaced with a 034 motor sports billet rms.
