burning oil, why?

nope it’s getting burned up somewhere, i haven’t pulled plugs, you mean spark plugs correct? also what would i be looking for with those

also yes there is smoke from the exhaust everytime i barely even rev it a lot comes out

Yeah, spark plugs. You're going to be checking for residue/deposits or even a shiny black coating. Google image search: oil fouled spark plug.

Personally though, I wouldn't go solely off of the spark plugs. I'd do a compression test or have one done. Low compression #s on any or all cylinders would more than likely mean the rings are letting oil into the combustion chamber(s). If compression is good and solid across the 4 cylinders, then the oil is coming from somewhere else; possibly valve stem seal(s) or maybe even the turbo is leaking.

just did compression test each cylinder was around 180 psi. i do need new spark plugs though.

Have you checked PCV? Are you reading the oil levels on a hot engine or cold?
both, it’s just going after 300 miles. and i just replaced the PCV valve thing for $40, but there is still a lot of oil in the pcv hosing so i’m just going to replace the whole system

40$ for a PCV ? Did you get a generic one?

That's good news for you.

You said you replaced it in the first post, however a $40 PCV is a red flag... most lower tier/generic brand parts can absolutely work with no issues, but I have seen many of the cheaper "new" parts fail immediately or be faulty before even being installed. You're normally going to be in the $150+ range when purchasing an OE/OEM PCV.

Going to be one of 4 things and they should be evaluated in the following order:

- PCV -> Just replace with new and see what the impact is.
- Rings -> This can be confirmed by a leak down test, compression only tells you part of the story.
- Valve seals -> Evaluate how much oil burning smoke occurs at a cold start. If that's when you see an increase in oil smoke it could be from oil getting past the valves and sitting on the pistons over night.
- Turbo -> If leak down is good, it's likely your turbo seals. Not uncommon for stock IHI's to go bad and oil burning is a symptom of that.

So my car has never burned oil. Never had to top it up provided I keep to the 10k mile service intervals.

However, recently the people at a specialist garage doing some modifications to my car noticed oil vapour/smoke again and again.

Turbocharger seals were perishing.

Mine had done 120k miles on stock K03 and was starting to leak.

So naturally I asked for it to be replaced with a K04 and a Stage 3 tune.
