Cheap, maybe even free K04 install? (Also WTB K04)

Hey guys, I'm dying to get a K04 to say the least and with the APR V3 software releasing soon I'm excited to be getting it at the right time. Problem is I don't know any shops that install within my budget. I'm trying to save money and that does mean I'm looking for a used K04 for sale if anyone has one. Hit me up.

Anyways, I'm just wondering if anyone knows a shop that does the K04 install for less than $700. If you were wondering, that's what Achtuning quoted me.

First and foremost you get what you pay for. Find a reputable shop that has done this install before. Achtuning does one almost every other week it seems like. Figure out which is more cost effective: buy used turbo, software, install separately or buy new with software (Achtuning often does free install specials).

If you are dead set on going as cheap as possible, post something up on Vortex...I'm sure someone will be willing to install it in their garage for you.

I have been actually running the number for awhile and it always ends up cheaper going used, obviously. I mean 1300 for the K04 plus even Achtuning's labor and 300 for the software, that still puts me at 2300 which is 500 less than a new one, after taxes.

I understand that you get what you pay for, but if a shop has done the install before, and they seem reputable enough (specially through Yelp), I trust that they would be good enough. I'm going to ask a friend tomorrow so maybe I will end up getting a close to free install. Thanks.

Good luck. Personally I'd either do the work myself (that way if I break something, I know what's broken and what I need to do to fix it) or take it to a place that has done this install many times and will stand behind their work. Had a bad experience with taking one of my cars to get valvestem seals replaced on my DSM by a guy who offered a great deal working out of his garage. 4 months later my cam snapped in half because he didn't follow the right order/torque specs on cam bearings.

You could possibly try Meisters garage and see if he's done this install before. Otherwise maybe try Speedware, Fine Tuning, don't know of any other places. Chances are they will all charge the going hourly rate in the area.

Best of luck on your search!

Sweet, thanks for the for the suggestions Anghell. I'll check them all out within the week.

I got in touch with my friend, he's got to fix his 240SX before he helps me out, if he does. I think I'll end up doing the install with him. My only issue is the tools and the fact that I'm not mechanically inclined while my friend has, although built his 240SX from the ground up and works on cars, never worked out a German car before. Oh well, time will tell!

Anyone in the area got a K04 they're parting out with? Preferably APR, but any K04 works!

I know someone local (portland) that would install it cheap. I was in a pinch and out up a post on vw vortex and he shot me a message. Took my apr ko4 off my 08passat and did such a good job I had him install it on my 2010 gti. Send me a om if youd like his info or what not. Great mechanic. Not a shop tho. Cool guy also. Good luck
