Very cool Dubya, looks like youre having quite the fun 40th birthday celebration . Id eat every one of those dishes...and yes eating raw meat is not unheard of...ive done 2-3 times before in the form of steak tar tar with a raw egg. Always wanted to try hot pot. I too am not a huge fan of sake..especially when warm...BUT when in rome yeah...

dont forget to eat that sushi fish side down for most flavor...

have a fun rest of the trip (thumbsup)

edit: Also please try the 711 egg salad sammiches.

I’ve had four of them already. The Lawson’s one is the best. I buy a few every morning and keep them in our hotel fridge and eat then throughout the day.

Anthony Bourdain describes them as “pillows of love.”

Bummer about Eddie Money. Every time I hear "Take Me Home Tonight" I'm transported back to 4th grade class parties at the Roller Rink. Who here besides maybe EJ and Hondadude remember roller rinks?

We used to have grade school trips to Skateland

And then roller blades were starting to become a thing/you could rent them

Come to Ohio they’re still hwre

Yup, we still have them around here too

My oldest, 7, went to a kid's b-day party last year at a roller skating rink and the place was packed....so it still is a thing, apparently

Also, I’m pretty sure that it’s not considered Tokyo Food Porn unless there are tentacles involved.

Thats awesome, im glad you are aware of the egg sandwiches ...surprised noone on here was like "bruh what ? convenience store sammiches . gross"

Have seent through many travel food vloggers, convenience stores throughout Asia arent what they are here in the states. Id definitely try a fair share of local food options, HOWEVER... im saying it now..i cant get down with those shrimp/fishy potato chips and snacks. Gross. :bellyroll:

Tokyo convenience stores actually have decent grab and go food.

I gotta say. Tokyo tops my urban city charts right now. Great transit system. Well planned organized chaos. Always on time. Everything is clean. Everyone is respectful with everything, personal space, courtesy and such. Food has been amazing. Lots of pretty people. Good times. Now on to Singapore tomorrow.

I've had some great Asian food. But I have to admit - a lot of it scares me. I would not fare well visiting an Asian country. I'd be so torn between "when in Rome..." and "I'm not touching that..."

Longtime family friends took my dad and I to a Chinese restaurant years ago in Hoffman. We took our table, and the 3 brothers all spoke in Chinese to the waiter. He took this surprised look on his face, went around and collected the menus from everyone, and hustled away. Shortly thereafter, they started bringing food out. All kinds of wild, crazy looking stuff. They ordered a lot of "what mom used to make" kinds of things.

My dad warned me: don't ask what it is. Just eat it. Close your eyes if you have to... but just eat it.

To this day I don't know what I ate, but it was all very tasty. My family friends never told me what it was - tho they DID tell me, "Even if you DID ask for it, they wouldn't make it for you. You're white."

Shrimp snacks - smells bad. Tastes amazing. Not the multi colored styrophkne ones @ restaurants - those are garbage. but the ones in prepackaged snack bags @ stores. With actual shrimp.

There’s nothing too crazy in Asian food that isn’t in Eastern European food or South American food... good food is good food. [emoji2370]
