Clutch Slave Cyclinder Replacement

For the past two years, I have been having issues with the clutch pedal sticking to the ground in the first five minutes of starting my 2013 GTI. I had the transmission fluid flushed, but it did not really help. In the last few weeks, I have had trouble shifting into first or reverse while parking. Restarting the engine temporarily solved the shifting. Now, I cannot shift to any gear if the engine is on. It shifts fine with the engine off. Here is the diagnostic and the quote I got from a shop in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have 40,000 miles on the car, and I'm on the fence about replacing the flywheel as well.

Does all of this make sense? Is this a reasonable quote? Do you have any additional advice?

Diagnosis Notes:
Clutch is not operating as it should due to the clutch slave cylinder/release bearing assembly failing
Recommend a full clutch replacement since the transmission needs to be removed in order to replace the clutch slave cylinder/release bearing assembly

Only 40k on a 2013? and I thought my 85k on a 2012 was low mileage lol. Maybe a stupid suggestion... but make sure your system is bled properly... If it is low on fluid/has air in the lines i could see that causing a lot of those same issues your having... I like to think the shop knows what they are talking about but just a thought.

Either way I can't speak to the quote cost since your area will be a hell of a lot more expensive than mine... But 1k in labor doesn't sound bad at all. You can source the parts yourself to compare, but yeah... that labor cost seems pretty solid.

if you only have 40k and the clutch never had any signs of slipping I wouldn't replace the fly wheel personally.

Is your car stock? Other thing to consider is if you've got after market bits it'll need a stronger clutch with minimal power upgrades. Mine started to slip when i got the stage 2 APR tune so keep that in mind... If there are after market parts I'd be hesitant to replace the clutch system with all OEM parts.
