Coolant leak and warranty question

808OR

Passed Driver's Ed
So coolant light came on the other day and checked and it was well below the line. Topped it off with distilled water and then checked again and it's below the min line again. Today just noticed that there is pink coolant looking fluid at the bottom of my engine compartment. Only have 16k miles in and have an appointment scheduled.

My question is, I have stage 1&2 intake and stage 1 ECU flash. I highly doubt an intake could have anything to do with it. Could the ECU upgrade have anything to do with it? Will the dealer try to blame it on that if they discover I have the ECU/intake upgrade? I know these are notorious for coolant leak and water pump failure problems.

Also is it worth swapping out my intake and putting the stock intake back in so they don't trip out on me, or is leaving the APR one in okay? Don't have experience with dealerships and mods yet. Thanks.

You shouldn't have any issues getting it fixed since its probably your water pump and is a known issue.

However your car will most certainly get flagged in the VW system for being tuned..not much you can do about it. Leave the intake on.

The waterpump doesnt have to do anything with the ecu. So therefore not caused by the tune which very likely cover it under warranty

You should be good, just had my water pump replaced and I have stage 2 intake and tune. They only thing they wanted was for me to take them for a ride once it was done lol

You'll be fine. I just had my water pump replaced under warranty last week. You can look at my sig, my car stands out like a MOFO and they still fixed it. I'm also flagged TD1 (sucks my service manager brought it up to me since he didn't flag it.)

Side note. You from Hawaii?

Mine ( Stage 1, '12 GTI 20,000 Km,~12,500 mile at the time) was leaking slowly, lost 2/3 of the coolant over 6 months, thought it was the water pump.
Dealer did a pressure test, found one of the coolant hose connections wasn't seal properly. Fix under warranty.

All fixed under warranty.... Don't think they flagged me for ECU though. Thanks for the input guys

Ok so I'm searching for all this coolant leaking issue and saw many threads about this, I'm not starting any new one so this is my story, I'm only 9 months with my GTI (and I love it) but the coolant light came on and as everybody else around here I see the pink fluid under the car and the liquid on the reservoir under the minimum line (almost gone honestly) and I'm on my 8K miles only, this is very frustrating since about two months back they replace the gas pumps on my vehicle and they keep the GTI on the dealer for a week!, and now I'm going back for what it seems to be the water pump (for what I read here on the threads), I love the GTI but it's getting a little annoying going in and out of the dealership so often...anyhow wish me luck and let's hope that this issue can be solve within a week or so, I'll keep you all post it ;)

Hopefully they give you a loaner.

Yes they gave me a loaner alright here it is:

And I'm in the “water pump damage club", I'm in Puerto Rico so the pump it's going to arrive later this week, so it's seems like I'm going to be hanging on the Beetle until next week...

But still I miss my GTI :(

I had this issue once and they had to replace the flange (if I remember correctly). At the time I was told VW switched subs and the new manufacturer of this part had eliminated that problem. Then my coolant light went on again last night.

Had a bit of a dust up with my service rep last time I was in so now I am going to the other dealership across town and I am a bit nervous about whether they will make my tune an issue.

I am seriously thinking about getting a new R in 2016 and I really hope they have done something about this issue in the mk VII.

I'm at 5k and have a coolant leak on the front of the block from the same area indicated by others. Making my appointment tomorrow. This is unacceptable.
