Who knows, maybe he will happy that he got a free tune. A tune doesn't void warranty anyways :D

That article was ridiculous. Consumer reports lives in La La land. A deposit is a binding contract and no dealer is going to let the car leave the lot for an independent inspection. And no it doesn't meant they have "something to hide". It means they don't want their inventory gallivanting all over town. Not saying these folks didn't get screwed, but it is a blog post about one attorney trying to cash in. That's why you need to read each manufactures explanation of "certified". Some of em don't mean jack, just a marketing term.

"inspect" an "inspected" car wow...
I think one should just understand something a used car is a "USED" car a CPO'd car will still likely be better than your average non CPO'ed because the dealer supposedly does an inspection if they are reputable.

But for someone that understands anything in cars going CPO is a waste of money, you're paying 3-10k for a "warranty" that sometimes is only about as long as the warranty already on the car.

This is true, Usually a "CPO" car will be in alright condition because of the stricter age and mileage requirements, less than 4 year's old/ under 50-60k Most modern cars are not going to fail at that point.

Dealerships even the "good" ones are so shady in every department, its hard to expect much.

obvious possibilities are obvious - with any used car and especially with CPO's... that's WHY in many cases, the car is CPO'd. This article/guy is a few years late to the game.

each manufacturer has very different qualifications for CPO. BMW's must have had all services done on time, with BMW. Tires have to be stock run flats, etc. So, in some cases, very much worth it. I am sure other high end cars are similar. and it an extra 2 years and 50k on the warranty.....nothing to scoff at. But on a toyota or mazda...have no idea what counts as "certified"
