Deciding between Bilstein B4/B6

Hi,

I own a 2009 2.0 TDI which is primarily used for shopping tasks but I do also enjoy taking drives through the mountains and the occasional track day (circuit).

The car is optioned with sport suspension and I really like the way the car handles other than the fact that the dampers are getting soft. I have noticed the rears are leaking.

I have previously owned a 1 series BMW which I fitted Bilstein B6 and really loved the way that transformed the car.

Now I have to make the choice for this car if I also go down the B6 path or if the B4 would be a more appropriate choice.

On my BMW they (B6) were an inverted design and came with bump stops and covers, do you know if these bump stops and covers are included in the Golf offering or do I need to buy them separately like the B4?

Do you recommend replacing the front or rear top mounts as a preventative measure or only if they have been problematic?

If you like the OEM ride and handling, get the B4. Bilsteins for the Mk6 are all valved pretty stiff - I have GTI B4s on my R, and they're firmer than the R stock shocks were.

B4 are OEM replacements, so you'll need new bump stops with them. Also definitely do the top mounts and bearings - they're most likely worn out too and you'll have to do the whole job over again (including another alignment) if you reuse them and they start making noise after the shocks are in. All the bolts in there are one-time use, too.
