EPC + Cyl 2 Misfire Advice

Hey All,

I know there is info out there around these issues. Seems a number of things could be the culprit. My car has 142K on it. Been custom tuned/ supported KO4 setup since 113k .. I changed the coil packs and plugs (1 step colder) at that time... Wondering with the setup if 30k is likely a reasonable lifespan for the coils an plugs? Maybe that caused the misfire? I checked the plugs a while back an didn't see anything concerning... Thoughts? My other more concerning though is Carbon buildup... I haven't carbon cleaned this car an do not know the prior history....

carbon cleaning is a MUST. Get it done first before you start replacing coils/plugs.
Try moving around the plug+ignition coil, see if MF's follows it.

Although carbon cleaning is very important for these engines, start with the simple stuff first. Move the cylinder 2 spark plug to cylinder 1 and the cylinder 2 coil to cylinder 3. Drive for a while and recheck your codes. This will you if it's the coil (cylinder 3 misfire), plug (cylinder 1 misfire), or fuel injector (cylinder 2 misfire). If the misfire seems to spread to all cylinders, it's carbon buildup.

check the plugs first. 30K is a bit long on a k04 on one of these cars. the gap opens up pretty fast if driven hard. I've had them go from 0.028" to over 0.032" in under 10k a few times. on the 8 heat range ngk's

Yes way.... maybe for you. I've not gone over 15k, but I like Denso over NGK its a finer wire.

Also, OP FWIW I chased a similar misfire for a while that tunes out to be an engine harness issue. CLY2 was losing Spark randomly. It can be a lot of things.
