Second, it is rated fully five insurance groups lower than the previous GTI, thanks chiefly to that strange little device that you can see in the middle of the grille, the one that looks a bit like a camera.
It’s a radar-operated speed and distance sensor, basically, and, according to VW, it will prevent you from lunching your sparkling new GTI into the back of another car by applying the brakes for you in an emergency, hence the hugely lower insurance rating.

I wonder if the ECU tuners will be able to change how the diff operates since its electronically controlled.
Edit: Im also curious to see what VW strips out of our version although unlikely it wouldn't surprise me if we didn't get the LSD. I will be surprised if we get that big of tq bump and even more surprised if the performance package gets offered here.

Ready to race!
I really like it, I'm just done with the GTI, I always wanted one, I got one, ready to move on to a 3-Series next. I'll still test drive one.

I am pretty sure multiple sources have stated that the us gti will have the option for the performance pack. One of the uk reviewers said it was similar upgrade cost to 19" alloys, which I take to mean probably around 1500-2000 bucks.

crazy! as much as i like this one I wont likely get another GTI.
