Confirmed what size I need for the RPF1...28mm. Stock are 27mm and ball seat. I have been running amazon 30mm which were pretty heavy, plus gorilla locks...previously with TSW Interlagos.
Looking at acer racing titanium.

Lugs shipped but will arrive when I'm out of town. Really curious how they will compare.
I found a hole in the HKS catback, it was damaged when my friend owned the car. I'll need to remove it and get it welded.
I also got an intercooler, basically an APR knockoff with $1,000 discount. October should be fun.

Titanium lugs came today. Individually wrapped, interesting. I pulled them out, and used the same box to weigh old vs new.
30mm iron vs these 28mm, saving 1.8 pounds unsprung weight = 18 pounds off the car.

I've had a couple low oil pressure warnings that immediately went away. Not the usual hard turn scenario. I suspect the wiring harness, but I am working on adding a gauge. 42DD used to make a nice kit that no one stocks anymore. Amazon offerings looked poor quality, so I pieced together what I need on Summit Racing. In stock and ready to ship.

So I mounted the oil pressure gauge. I had used this for diagnostic purposes on another car, it's barely used. But doesn't have much line. The switch is at the base of the oil filter, tap into it with a tee. There is a casting mark under there that may get in your way. I mounted the gauge near the obd2 port as this was the easiest spot, and I ran out of line. This is the cheaper mechanical version, not electrical, though I will probably upgrade in the future. I don't know how accurate this thing is. The FSM says oil psi should be 39-65 at 2000 rpm. This shows about 38 when hot. Idle shows 10psi, but it's not setting off the pressure switch which is set for 17. I wish I knew what the numbers were before the balance shaft change. I may be buying a pump...

Whether or not the oil pump is bad, I bought another one. Considered Hamburg Tuning (HT) but I found the latest revision Pierburg on autohausAZ for almost the same cost. It's half the ECS price. Prices keep going up, so I'll have this on hand. Maybe do it at the next oil change.

The pump is already here! Shipped yesterday and the FedEx guy dropped it off about an hour ago. Amazing.
They did grind off some numbers on the casting...now I'm wondering if Pierburg is just re-boxing them.
Edit- did some searching, looks identical to made in China castings. Hotwin, AULINK, etc. Might as well save some money and get the HT one on ECS for $130 or even this $70 one on amazon. SMH

I did return the Pierburg pump and got the HT one. HT arrives sealed with that metal protectant on it that rotors have. Better quality already.
Plan is to replace the oil pressure gauge with an electric one. Car is still running strong, but these borderline pressure numbers worry me. Thinking OEM balance shafts might be necessary after all. Depending on how that goes, maybe bottom end bearings, but I hope not.
Cool, dense fall weather today and the car loves it. Breaking traction in 3rd gear as I'm running around.

I've got a stack of new Continental DWS that I bought a couple years ago, for the failed Mini Cooper project.
They just happen to be the stock size for a GTI. So I picked up a dirt cheap set of 17" Vision V wheels. A little rough, but no bends or serious rash. This will be my 'winter' set, or wet track days. Ironically, the car started it's life on the 18" version of these.
Scuffed them up and throwing some paint on now. I start in the garage and dry in the sun. The one on the mat is the original color.

The Fixer
Getting the ABS module recall done, VW action code 45F2, NHTSA recall 16V913.
Service writer said some mk6 cars were involved but I've only ever heard of the late mkv.
They did a software update first, and now it faults immediately. I have no ABS or ESP at startup.
Used to be only when braking in slippery conditions.
Parts are a couple days out and then they'll call me for another appointment.
Between this and the new tires, the car should be ready for a holiday trip up north.

Had the DWS mounted at the local tire 'experts.' They gouged and scratched one of my freshly refurb wheels, SMH.

Dealer rant...
I spent some time getting the car ready this week for it's return to the dealer. They said I needed tires (summer tires still have some life), I put new tires/wheels on. I did the wheel bearing/hub, lower ball joint, tie rod...these parts were still working, but had torn boots and damaged lug threads. I washed it up, and left the house at 7am to make the appointment. They had no loaner car, but a shuttle guy that runs all over for various dealers. 2:30 they call me and say they can't program the module. I make my way back thinking they just need to add 00 to the coding.
"They've worked on it all day"
*under hood looks exactly the same*
Did they do the alignment yet?
"No."
"Parts ordered the wrong part, it will be here Saturday.
Ok, let me drive it home. I've had no ABS since the update.
"We don't think it's safe, it's a safety thing."
After more farting around, they magically find a loaner Taos and I finally get out of there at 5.

They called and said it was done, but the ABS light is on and 'needs more diagnosis.' I would have to pay out of pocket.
I told them I'll pick it up. Got the car today, they have me sign the recall paperwork for $1800 which says they couldn't fix it because of an existing fault. Total bullshit. They said the $130 wheel alignment was done...but my steering wheel is still crooked. I don't think they even touched it, so I'm disputing that charge. Took it to a local shop who made it right.
I got the car home and ran through all the Ross Tech codes, basic settings, finally a VW tech tip explained the ESP function test may not turn off... but it can be manually deactivated.
Boom, I fixed the car.
