Head lights and fog lights

Hey everyone, as of yesterday I'm a proud owner of a 2012 CSG GTI. Loving it so far. One of the first things I want to do is get head lights and fog lights. The only thing is that I am very particular. I have tried a search on this site and google for a thread about this but failed to find one so please forgive me if this is a repost. And just about everything I find are pictures of the headlights during the day where you cant really get a good look at the color of the light emitted.

Basically I want head lights (interested in them with or without LEDs, projector or not) and fog lights, both of which are bright (not blindingly bright, I guess mean vibrant) and have a very nice white or whitish blue color to them. Here is an example of around the color I am looking for, found this on youtube. At the 17 second mark, the color of the LEDs is the kind of color I am looking for.

If anyone here could post pictures of their lights or someone else lights, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks everyone!

Those look like the stock fog bulbs, somewhere in the 5-6k range would be fine for what your looking for. I personally would stick with a halogen bulb since the housings aren't really meant for HIDs.

If you want to swap to bi-xenons with the leds plan on spending around 1,300 bucks for the oem replacements with ballasts and bulbs.

What about HID conversion kits? I see them around for $100. For instance this one on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/8000K-Blue-...ar:2012|Model:GTI&hash=item1c27e0cb5f&vxp=mtr

That seems cheap as hell and makes me think there is some kind of catch. If I was to get an HID conversion kit would it be safe to replace the stock bulbs in the current housing (stock) they are in? If an HID conversion is a good choice can someone point me in the direction of a good conversion kit? Thanks

Sure, why not if you want to piss off everyone that you ever come into contact with at night. HID's are not meant for your current reflectors. Don't be a douche....Your friends will thank you for it..

I can't speak to headlights since I have Xenons, but for foglights, I upgraded to HIDs. My first route I went with replacing bulbs with a better quality and brighter bulb...Nokya. Eventually, I upgraded to USP Motorsports HID foglight kit and couldn't be happier.

Someone in this thread mentioned that the housing for the fogs and headlights weren't meant for HIDs. Have you had any problems with yours?

What they meant was that Halogens use reflectors to focus light out on the road. The simple side is that the bulb in a halogen is designed differently from the bulb in a HID.

HID are meant to have projectors, not reflectors. If you put HID bulbs in a halogen housing the reflectors just send all the light out in a wide area. The end result is you look like an idiot driving around with your high beams on blinding everyone.

HIDs in halogen housings do NOT look good, they do NOT make effective lights, and they will get lots of people pissed off at you. if you want HIDs, the only inteligent thing to do is A) buy a car with them factory equipped, B) Retrofit a halogen car to HID with OEM parts in a swap, or C) Buy replica housing kits like those sold on here by Ed.

Ugh... there should be an instant ban on speaking about/recommending HIDs in halogen housings to "improve" lighting conditions in night and/or daytime. This should be illegal and punishable by death.

Anyway, enough with my rant.

Do you have halogens or xenons in your GTI? If you have halogens, I think there are some people on this board that can give you recommendations on some better bulbs than the stock ones (NOT HIDs). If you have xenons, keep them; they are great for OEMs

I have halogens. I just bought Nokya stage I bulbs for low beams and fogs. I figured it will hold me off until I do more research. I would like to get some projectors later though. And thank you thumper for your explanation about the housings, I understand now.
