Headlight washer cover

I have been having a nightmare time with getting replacement. Passenger side popped out driving one day from a pothole, replacement doesn’t fit at all. Is there a trick I’m missing? Playing the piece in the slot just wiggles around.

Post a picture of the underside of the cover, there are two different types, one for the GTi GTD R and one for the normal golf/rabbit.

Mine popped out when I was trying to clean out some wax between the cracks and it broke some tabs, so it was never staying put again. I just jb welded that sucker in place since I have no reason to ever remove it.
