This isn’t a how to guide - there’s enough info on the forums and YouTube now to figure it out if you’re feeling motivated enough.

I am just posting this to motivate people to take this on if you’re annoyed at this problem. I cut off my headliner and ran without one for about six months before finally taking the time to take it off, scrub off all the failed foam, and spray on glue to replace. I’d say labor wise it took me about 8 hours (as always the second time around would be much faster). Figuring out how to remove all the trim especially the center sun glass holder unit took me the longest along with the actual removal of the headliner from the car because it’s huge. Just be patient and you can do it!

Gonna need to get around to this one day soon.

My headliner seems to have held up a lot better than other GTIs of similar ages, but its starting to be a noticeable problem if you take a close look.

Was that fabric you linked to an exact match?

the measurements were a bit extra in case. The headliner itself is about 70x44 inches. I just got extra in case I messed up - the material itself from I ordered is a bit more feltier and less smooth. Some ppl recommend more stretchy fabric to prevent wrinkles - this one wasn’t too stretchy but I got it to work. The hard part to get even is the center sunglasses holder area - you may have an “air bubble” there but if you take your time it can be done
