2010 GTI has 160,000 miles and runs great except in below freezing temps, where we are getting very rough idles and misfire/intake leak CELs. Had engine carbon cleaned but didn't help - shop that did it looked for the leak with smoke machine and spraying carb cleaner but couldn't find anything obvious. So this summer I want to swap in new fuel injectors (with new seals obviously) and intake in hopes that will take care of the issue. It seems to me something is shrinking/contracting in the very cold weather, letting air in, and then expands when the engine warms up and re-seals.
The CARFAX says it had a new intake put on in 2013 at a dealer, so I would think it was an OEM. Car now has a URO intake so that's probably the third one (at least). I can't find a part number on top of the URO intake anywhere and am wondering if it is the old version or the revised version. I need to figure this out because buying the new version of the intake requires a new version of fuel rail, according to FCP Euro, and that's expensive no matter where I look. I could go for a used on eBay, but I don't know what the difference between the new fuel rail and old one is.
So before I fork over for a new updated fuel rail - will it be obvious that the new version of the intake won't mate with the old style fuel rail? Should i just try to put the new intake in and see if it fits, then order a fuel rail if I need it? Or will I likely need the new fuel rail so just get it with the intake? Anyone been here before and can share some insight? I suppose I could order the new rail and return it if I don't need it...
thanks,
Charlie
