uh yeah thats false, some of us bought our GTI for BUDGET reasons. Did i really want a GTI, to be honest not really, but for within my budget, and pressed for time to get a new car, it's what i ended up with. Had i had a bigger budget or more time, i would NOT be in a VW right now.

Best 'for the money' is assumed.:bonk:

I am not even close to comparing a $25k GTi with a $55k S4 or $120k 991 911 or whatever...
There are SEVERAL other cars I would rather drive than the GTi if my budget were different. I have my favroties at virtually every $5k/$10k threshold. I can safely apply an 'under $30k' qualifier on the statements regarding the GTI superiority in the market FOR CARS.

FOR ME RIGHT NOW (6/15/2012) in a car that needs to do all things well (a DD), this is what it would look like;

Under $20k - Impreza (light on options)
$20k-$30k - GTI/GLI
$30k-$35k - VW CC
$35k-$45k - Audi A4/Volvo S60 (tie)
$45k-$55k - Audi S4
$55k-$65k - Audi A6
$65k-$75k - Audi A7
$75k-$85k - NEW Audi S6
$85k-$100k - Jag XJ/Audi A8 (tie)
$100k+ - NEW Audi S8

Budget is the NUMBER ONE (not only) when considering a new car. That much is assumed when comparing one car to another.

Typically, a general rule of thumb in the industry is +/- 10% constitutes the price classification.

I wanted something rwd, but ft86 was not out yet. Was not a fan of the two door GTI look, but did like the four door. Ideally if the Scirocco was in the US, then I would have gone for that, but oh well.

Don't be embarrassed because you were wrong. Just learn...

Transference (making fun of me for your mistake, and calling you on it) is not good on you...

 Keep trolling I was right on every part.

Exactly. I love my GTI, but definitely not first choice.

Really?? What parts??

Its faster than a GTI - WRONG
- Identical 0-60
- Camry by 2/10's in the 1/4 mile
- GTI in handling, braking, grip, etc.

You should have just said the Camry is QUICKER (not faster) in the 1/4 mile and thats it...

It has more passenger room - RIGHT
YES - The 20% larger Camry has 7% more passenger volume

It has more cargo room - WRONG
- 0.1 cu.ft (0.6%) difference MIN Cargo Capacity (nominal)
- 10.0 cu.ft (65%) difference in MAX Cargo Capacity (TONS)

Thus GTI has more cargo room...

It runs on regular - AND??? (WRONG)
- The Camry runs on regular but the GTI gets better mileage so is still cheaper in fuel costs annually when compared to the Camry...

I am assuming you mentioned the regular fuel requirement in an effort to infer estimated fuel costs being less for the Camry. Just wrong...

Its Cheaper - WRONG
Just wrong.... The Camry V6 is NOT cheaper at any level...

Its less expensive to maintain - Depends over what time period - ??? - And I think you are more referring to repairs than maintenance. The maintenance on both would be nearly identical actually. Tires, brakes, oil changes, etc.

Its less expensive to insure - WRONG - so says me as the licensed property/casualty agent...

We can keep score if you like...haha. I just proved you WRONG in saying you were RIGHT. I am sure we could keep going if you like.
Wrong - SIX ACCOUNTS (performance, cargo room, inferred fuel costs, price, maintenance costs, insurance premiums)
Right - ONE ACCOUNT (passenger volume...)

So not only do I objectively prove you wrong on 6 of 7 accounts (the 7th I didn't even argue) AND you call me a troll for it?? Hmm....

NOW,
Who is the troll here? YOU for bringing up the Camry for NO REASON just to start shit or ME for calling you on said shit?
Just quit before you make yourself look worse for blatantly ignoring concrete facts I have posted several times now...

Still trolling I see...

Faster than a GTI. Never mentioned handling.
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/toyota-camry-se-v6-road-test-review

Zero to 60 mph: 5.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 14.1 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 6.1 sec
Top gear, 30–50 mph: 3.4 sec
Top gear, 50–70 mph: 3.7 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.3 sec @ 101 mph

Show me a GTI that goes at 14.3 and traps at over 100mph stock?!

Cheaper:
Camry SE V6 vs Autobahn at 32.500
Go to toyota.com and build it.
3.5-Liter V6 , SE, 6-Speed Automatic $26,910
Leather Sport Package with Options View Details
$3,510
Delivery, Processing & Handling Fee $760
MSRP* $31,180

Fuel is a in fact an omission on my part.

According to fuel economy.gov they cost the same to operate.
Annual Fuel Cost* Camry $2,250 GTI $2,250
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=31766&id=31200

Bigger:
Passenger Volume 103 ft3 (4 door) 94 ft3 (Hatchback)

Service
GTI requires $400 trans service every 40k that alone shoots its over the top. As well as spark plugs before 100k etc.

Camry is only oil/filter/cabin air filter until 100k

Insurance

http://money.msn.com/auto-insurance/auto-insurance-quotes.aspx
Volkswagen
GTI Autobahn PZEV
Car
4 Door Hatchback
4 cyl.
$1,445.00
Toyota

You can't be f'ing serious you just assigned random points to make yourself look superior in an argument you already lost twice by my count.

So when you can't win an argument you randomly make shit up to make yourself look superior  you crack me up.

This month alone you have argued with the following well respected and contributing members:
DanielJ,
Grambles,
Gunkata,

Being wrong every time and simply wearing us all down with your page long posts about nothing but your opinions. Once we don't respond because you are so stubborn and nearsighted that you won't accept anyone else's facts/opinions besides your own, you chalk it up as a win.

You constantly twist data to back up your own points when you are clearly wrong. And you go as far as making up your own point system to try and prove others wrong with math you simply made up for that very post/thread.

You have never admitted to making a mistake and frankly you're the biggest troll on this forum.

That is all, I am sure everyone one else will agree.

I keep things as objective as possible. WITH equal weight too...

I haven't lost at all. That mere statement means YOU LOST because it isn't a competition or somethign that can be won or lost...

You were wrong (not lost) and then had to qualify each of your statements (you might call it twist FOR YOU) to make yourself look better.

I assigned points from the onset saying you were right on 1 account and wrong on 6 accounts. After you had qualified (explained what you meant) you helped your case a tad.
