The Nurburgring has taken so many cars.. They call it the "Green Hell" for a reason.

I was on the track for 4 laps and saw 2 crashes... its very common and just a part of the track.

That's why people have to be extremely careful. Someday I would love to experience the Nurburgring though.

Don't turn off traction control and you'll generally be fine.

What's amazing is that you can pass and be passed anywhere, without any signaling. It really is one of those autobahn-type deals that will sadly disappear at one point.

you can only pass on the left. most the time there is a road hog that takes up the whole track and wont let me pass. i hate that. if you see a car that is faster than you just turn on your right blinker and move to the right to let the gt3 go by. and slow the fuq down for adenauer forst. i dont know whats so difficult about that corner, its in the same spot every lap. it doesnt move. i went to the 24h race in 2013, that was insane!

That's interesting about the passing.

Yes. Things can happen in a split second.

This needs to be said again.

GTI_Likeurmom is correct, f00kie is wrong about passing. It may not always play out as it should but there are rules enforced - you are expected to pass only when it is safe with blinkers on and on the left, just as you would on the autobahn. As well, and most people don't know this but there are technically two sections on the ring that have speed zones!

The motorcyclists are the most stressful (and most awesome) part about driving on the ring - %90 take FOREVER in the turns and then buzz by you on the straights. Rinse and repeat. But no where else can I think of that let both run simultaneously at full throttle!

When the two wheels were about to go off he should have straightened the wheel and hit the right side wall with his right side and that would have been sucky but far less damaging and dangerous. Instead it appears he had the wheel turned when he went off trying to catch it, so the right side lost traction when the two went off and with the wheel turned he snapped across the track and head on into the wall. This is a classic example of why coaches tell you to straighten the wheel when you're about to go off.

This.

It is a common mistake for drivers to go two-wheels off, try to save it, and go careening off the other side of the track.

Happened this past weekend at my local track. NSX went two wheels off in a high speed turn, tried to save it, then hit the wall on the other side, destroying his car.

Urgh. Must be horrible to see an NSX like that.
