Italian Tune Up actually Works??

well they wont let me put the post up which is dumb because its a VW GTI site. Sorry Guys.

Basically showed that the Italian Tune Up does indeed work. Keep it around 4500 rpm for 30 minutes once in a while. Just hit the freeway in 4th for 30 min basically drastically reduced the build up. Photos on the link that wont go up show it.

that website link is goofy, it wont let you type it in a thread without the 'vw gti' part turning to stars. for example if i type those same words together it looks like this...*****club

I have pictures of my carbon build up at 30k that shows it does indeed work. I'll scan them and upload. I didn't do any "highway in 4th gear" though, I just went out and drove really hard for 20-30+ minutes at least once a month since I've had the car. I'm blessed with a place to do this though.. the highway option might be better for some. The few times I did a highway "burn", it was in 6th gear at 100+ for a long, long time. As a result of all this my car hardly showed any build up compared to what I've seen from others.

My service manager at Commonwealth VW tried to tell me if I only used Chevron and stopped occasionally using Mobil I wouldn't have any at all.. I thought about explaining direct injection to him, but instead I just :)

i think ill rather pay for a cleaning at 50k rather then get caught doing 100+.

I highly doubt anything other than the occasional hard drive is necessary, I just added that to state that my car may have had some crazy Italians doing the tune up.

What exactly did the Mobil 1 have anything to do with carbon buildup?

Silly VW dealers pushing their own (crappy) Castrol product. Dealer Castrol is not that great.

For me dirty exhaust tips after every drive means a job well done :D

Should try revving to 7k rpms for 30 min!

Yup. Guess this means I clean my intake valves every time I drive.

I believe it works to a certain point. I just drive home in Sport mode a couple times a month and it keeps the revs pretty high. I have like a 20+ minute commute on the freeway home.
