LED DRL brightness

kirahead

Ready to race!
Hey fella's

Firstly i'll explain

So the LED DRL's on my MK6 GTI obviously have 0, Auto, park lights, low beam, front and rear fogs options. In the AUTO position during the day when the headlights aren't on, the LEDs are bright, like very bright. At night time at position 0, they are the same brightness as AUTO during day time.

When you turn on parking lights they dim down for obvious reasons, they are too bright to use at night by themselves. But sometimes i drive with my parking lights and front fog lights during early dawn/dust but i find the LED's are a bit too dim for my liking.

So my question. Is there ANY WAY to make the LED DRLs stay the same brightness as it would during the day? (as in when they are on position 0 or AUTO)

Any help would be appreciated!
THANKS!

You'd need to code this using VCDS.

Having said that, please don't drive around just using DRL's and fog lights (they're fog lights). And auto works really well, so just leave it there.

I only use the fogs with LED's when its not DARK enough to really have the headlights on. but BRIGHT enough to not use the headlights (if that makes sense..)

Sometimes the auto is annoying, for example, when it turns the headlights on in shade etc, when you drive back into the light it doesnt turn off soemtimes.

I don't think you can adjust the brightness of the DRLs via VCDS. You can adjust the LED brightness while the headlights are on, however.

If it does that in AUTO, just flick it to the OFF and back to AUTO. But either way, whichever suites you best. Fog lights affect on-coming traffic.

Well here's the definitive answer.

this can be done on Audi's, but i do not know about for VW's.

Electronics between the A3 and Golf are very similar, if not identical.

true, then it should be possible i'd imagine.

Doesn't work. When the AUTO turns on the lights in day light, i switch it to 0 and back to AUTO and it turns back on. And i don't like driving on 0 cos sometimes i forget to turn them back to AUTO T_T

having the same LED DRL brightness at night WILL blind oncoming drivers... dont u realise that?

when the switch is at parking lights or low beam position, the Daytime RL LEDs automatically dim and become parking lights.

perhaps u should try to drive in another car towards your own car with the DRL on at night to realise (how blinding the DRL LEDs are) this ;-)

Wut? Lawl.

If you want blinding DRLs, go look at a Camry or some other car that uses the high beams for DRLs. Our LEDs, even at 100% brightness, don't glare and aren't blinding. I don't know if you had your nose plastered to the headlight assembly when you came to that conclusion, but I'm pretty sure you're the ONLY one who thinks so. Considering the LEDs aren't even bright enough to safely drive at dusk...

With the headlights turned on, the dazzle from the bixenons (at low beam) is enough to overcome the LEDs at 100 feet. Even if the LEDs were at full brightness, you would have a hard time seeing them around the glare from the projector lens.

My conclusion? Pass that joint on, dude, you've had enough...

Strange, mine works perfectly well in these scenario. If it's early evening (late afternoon  ) and the lights are off on AUTO, they come on if I drive into shade. On rare ocassions they stay on when I'm back in the open, but if I flick switch it from OFF (not ON) to AUTO, they work as expected.

Maybe there's an issue with the light sensor? Or the sunlight is just weird in your part of the world :p

lol yeah... Australian sun is hard on our light sensors... haha! and for that guy that said driving with DRLS WILL blind other drivers... i've have you know i do NOT drive with DRLs on at night... its just ridiculous not to use headlights at NIGHT TIME dude. i clearly said i only wanted to DRLS to stay on the brightest setting on cloudy, darker, early dawn/dusk times, NOT night time.

if u have oem DRL's, not eds reps, u can lower or raise the brightness, its in central electric one of the last 10 bytes. u will see 2 numbers in a box like 90 = 100

its a %age. ie 90% brightness. change the first # and hit do it or enter iirc

This is what I had suggested too... I could've sworn I've seen this.
