Mini VWR Subframe Mount Review

I After my issue with receiving a rusty and dirty subframe mount, APR quickly took care of me and sent me a new mount with overnight Saturday air delivery. I got them the next morning (shipped at 5pm) and decided to install them.

I was hoping to get away with not having to drop the subframe, but there was too little space above the subframe to work with, so I did. Wasn't too bad, and allowed me to helicoil some of the partially stripped frame rails.

Installation of the mount itself wasn't bad, I just used a large rubber mallet and a round piece of wood to get the old mount out and put the new one in, which was easy. I already had the HPA mount so I didn't have to worry about removing the lower stock mount.

End result: I'm very pleased. I decided to keep the HPA mount in the lower part, and VWR in the upper part. I read somewhere that this lead to a lot less vibration. It also made sense, because the HPA mount "wraps" around the dogbone, which I like.

The vibration and harshness have increased during engagement of the clutch and very low RPM, but at idle I feel, if anything, less vibration. I have not tried the AC yet.

Definitely less engine movement, I am very happy with this modification. Launching is probably where there would be the greatest improvement, but shifting and overall driving feels better too. I noticed that there is less engine movement when braking and turning sharply, which is nice as well. Makes the car feels a bit more nimble.

Thanks for this. I've been debating for months whether to install full VWR mounts. I already own two of them - subframe and transmission and would just need to buy the engine mount.

Stories like this just make me convinced a little bit more that going whole hog is the way to go...

I agree for sure.

I must note, the vibration is only present at 900-1200RPM, but it is pretty harsh. I would not install these if you are usually in a lot of stop and go traffic.

Nice review. I'm going to use the 034 solid rubber mount up top with the HPA on the bottom, and putting the bottom solid rubber on my wife's DSG.
