Do you happen to know a DIY to install this on a base GTI with no buttons? I can't seem to find one. Not sure if it's a direct swap or if other parts are needed.
No need for it, as your stock/base gti is already prewired

It seems like you still need the airbag harness and maybe the steering wheel control module based on this post: http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1941914#post1941914
You can release the airbag hook and install it, very easy

I suppose whether or not it works "out of the box" as you describe depends on whether you already have a dsg transmission? I get the impression from the link above that he has a manual car and had to add the tip tronic module.
