MooreHeat's Build Thread for NOOBS!

MooreHeat

Ready to race!
Well since I've finally started to receive stuff I've ordered, I figure I should begin a build thread. Mainly to provide myself, and you guys, with tracked progression, but like the title implies, to help out other noobs! I'm going to review/critique my installs from the point of a noob.. because.. well I am! By that I mean, I'm going to point out the basic things I notice that only someone who isn't familiar with being under the hood wouldn't know, and wouldn't usually be included in installation instructions.. ie "Common Sense" stuff to Wrenchers!

Modshack Intake and European Short Shifter

Before and After

My Modshack Installation Notes:
  • After finishing everything, I agree with most that Steve's instructions are very well put, and the install isn't all that hard. I'm just not used to some of the lingo or obvious shit...and it was cold as fuck when I did this.
  • When I went to remove the two screws securing the air scoop in place, the left one was easy to get to with my T20 screwdriver but the right one... my driver was too long.. I had to get creative with a ratchet and a open bit extension tool (not even sure what exactly it's called). Essentially, you may need a "L" shape. or adjustable, screwdriver to get that one.
  • After removing the two screws that hold the air scoop in place, the screw that attaches the stock airbox to the corner of the battery enclosure and loosening the clamp around the MAF section, I still have "something" holding the entire stock airbox assembly in place. It took me a minute to figure out, it was a couple rubber fittings that act as bolts (I guess?). There's one to the right of the airbox and one underneath... Anyways.. just gotta yank on it a bit and pull up hard.. I think the fact it was extremely cold may have prevented it from being as smooth as usual.

Other than that it went smooth. As most everyone else says, Modshack's intake is louder than stock but not obnoxiously. It just sounds good, to put it simply. Also the european short shifter does make a nice difference, I'm glad I didn't go for the 35-40% ones because I think the 20% reduction in shifting is just right for me.

The S3 shifter is great when it comes to OEM performance. The change definitely isn't crazy but you will appreciate the shorter throws if you drive with it a while and then hop in a stock MK6.

I got some touch up paint from my dealership. Came in pen form with one paint and one clearcoat. For $16 iirc that might be the easiest route to fix this.

I feel you on the clumsy part. I dropped my p3cars chip and came dangerously close to stepping on it. :yikes:

Installed my Billy Boat Downpipe the other day!! Here are a few pictures... didn't take much since we were crushed for time. The only access I have to a garage/safe area to work I have to pay for. Buts it worth it. We were able to get our hands on a lift.

Soooo.. after installed and driving home I heard some rattling/grinding. You could say my stomach turned a bit. It was late and the auto skills center closed as we were leaving... (technically we kept them there 15 mins late....) so after finally getting back under my car I saw this...

FML I see now that I had tighten the clamp bolts back to where they would touch cross brace. But you could say I was relieved that this is most likely the problem and not something serious. After removing the brace, it was confirmed.

That's the part that was touching the bolt. Anyways. Loosened the bolt and twisted it out of way, and I also turned the brace around so the indent part of it was facing the rear giving more space to the bolts.... just in case I guess. Drove the car.... no more grinding!!! Weeee... video coming soon if billy boat with stock cat back sound. Nothing too special in sound, but I can feel he difference for sure.

Tried the youtube anti shaking feature... kind of makes the video weird lol o_O

Anyways, nothing like hearing a new cat back, but there is a slight noticeable difference.

Nope... depo. Fitment is pretty good. Though I'm either going to go without boxes and code, since I have a cable... Or resecure them with Velcro... I don't think the double side tap works very well.

where are you supposed to mount them? I am going to help a neighbor with his DEPO's either tonight or tomorrow. If hidden, you could just use some model glue if its going on plastic.

That's where I mounted mine. But I think they may have fell already lol. Does cold make adhesive less adhesive? It was pretty cold today and the double sided tape didn't seem to be in tip top shape... I have some Velcro that I think I'm going to use... Busy weekend so I'll give it a go this week. The inner lights I just mounted them in the space above (...when the hatch is up.. Really its in the 'below' space if the hatch were down...)..

I went no fog.
