Hi, lots of threads over the internet but wanted to ask for others experience.
If i'm driving around 10/15kph in D1 or slowing down from D3-> D2 ->D1, sometime it pops out of gear and just flashes 'D' on the dash. I still have drive but only one gear so have to stop and turn off ignition and start again to *fix*. it doesn't happen all that often and I have taken it to the VW garage, and there response was.....needs a new gearbox (so about $7k). Now, i'm not saying they are advising me incorrectly, but, I fail to see how the whole gearbox needs changing if the actual gearbox works in terms of drive. Once i get past the speeds where this jump happens, I never have a problem (in D or S, up/downshift, anything). I've seen the mechatronic pack been mentioned a few times for a lot of the issues people have reported. I didn't ask VW what error they were seeing on the report from the car (no dash warnings come up). If (when) this issue happens and I restart the car, does the memory of the fault get lost (as we've rebooted the car effectively)? I was going to take it to a local specialist but didn't want to hand the car over and them spend 3 days driving it around and it not fail, I just want to know if I can drive it nearby, let it happen, then go to them and get them to plug in and see any error.
Any experience greatly received.
