Ready to race!
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT SINCE OCTOBER 1, 2014 THE DBALL AND DBALL2 MODULES NO LONGER SUPPORT THE 3X START FUNCTION - THE NEW MODULE THAT DOES IS THE DBALL2PRO - THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW MAY STILL BE SOMEWHAT RELEVANT, BUT PLEASE REFER TO THE DBALL2PRO INSTALLATION MANUAL FOR THE CORRECT WIRING

I installed a DB-ALL bypass/remote start module on my 2011, non-KESSY DSG GTI:
http://www.xpresskit.com/product.aspx?productid=461
Firmware: 401.VW02 v3.36 (RSR mode enabled)
This is the installation guide:
http://www.xpresskit.com/DocumentDownload.aspx?documentid=9055&productid=461&firmwareid=5287
KESSY: "INSTALLATION TYPE 1B - PTS & Automatic Transmission"
NON-KESSY: "INSTALLATION TYPE 1B - Regular Key & Automatic Transmission"
It's a really easy install, involving splicing into 5 wires in the ignition harness under the steering wheel and into 1 ground wire in the OBDII plug.
Because this is a VW, you also need to loop a wire over the ignition transponder and over your valley (or regular key), either one of which stays under the dash after the installation. It's all described pretty well in the DB-ALL installation manual. You need a universal valley switch like this one to do this:

Simply cut off the end with the button and separate the right and left wires to loop around key/ignition, then join the cut end to close the loop.
Here is a link to a wiring chart for the 2010-2013 Golfs, if anyone is interested:

This WILL work with a manual transmission, but involves spicing into a clutch over-ride wire and making sure that you don't leave your car in gear!!! There is a thread on Vortex with pictures that you can look into for more detail:

Update:
There is a work-around for manual transmission, non-PTS vehicles as well. A forum member posted a way to do it here:
Another good thing is that this module is pretty much plug and play with ALL Smart Start units, such as the Viper Smart Start:
http://www.viper.com/SmartStart/
Total cost is $60 for the module (programmed) from eBay. The Smart Start modules can be found refurbished for less then $100 on eBay and Amazon.
So for $150 and about 2-3 hours of your time, I'd say this is a pretty good deal.
