PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT SINCE OCTOBER 1, 2014 THE DBALL AND DBALL2 MODULES NO LONGER SUPPORT THE 3X START FUNCTION - THE NEW MODULE THAT DOES IS THE DBALL2PRO - THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW MAY STILL BE SOMEWHAT RELEVANT, BUT PLEASE REFER TO THE DBALL2PRO INSTALLATION MANUAL FOR THE CORRECT WIRING

https://www.directechs.com/product.aspx?sku=DBALL2PRO

I installed a DB-ALL bypass/remote start module on my 2011, non-KESSY DSG GTI:
http://www.xpresskit.com/product.aspx?productid=461

Firmware: 401.VW02 v3.36 (RSR mode enabled)

This is the installation guide:
http://www.xpresskit.com/DocumentDownload.aspx?documentid=9055&productid=461&firmwareid=5287

KESSY: "INSTALLATION TYPE 1B - PTS & Automatic Transmission"
NON-KESSY: "INSTALLATION TYPE 1B - Regular Key & Automatic Transmission"

It's a really easy install, involving splicing into 5 wires in the ignition harness under the steering wheel and into 1 ground wire in the OBDII plug.

Because this is a VW, you also need to loop a wire over the ignition transponder and over your valley (or regular key), either one of which stays under the dash after the installation. It's all described pretty well in the DB-ALL installation manual. You need a universal valley switch like this one to do this:
http://www.amazon.com/Momentary-Dir...386106982&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=vallet+switch

Simply cut off the end with the button and separate the right and left wires to loop around key/ignition, then join the cut end to close the loop.

Here is a link to a wiring chart for the 2010-2013 Golfs, if anyone is interested:

This WILL work with a manual transmission, but involves spicing into a clutch over-ride wire and making sure that you don't leave your car in gear!!! There is a thread on Vortex with pictures that you can look into for more detail:
http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5982217-Remote-Start-DIY

Update:
There is a work-around for manual transmission, non-PTS vehicles as well. A forum member posted a way to do it here:

Another good thing is that this module is pretty much plug and play with ALL Smart Start units, such as the Viper Smart Start:
http://www.viper.com/SmartStart/

Total cost is $60 for the module (programmed) from eBay. The Smart Start modules can be found refurbished for less then $100 on eBay and Amazon.
So for $150 and about 2-3 hours of your time, I'd say this is a pretty good deal.

Whoa. Didnt know this was even possible without going aftermarket. Might consider doing this.

They don't recommend it on a manual as the car can start in gear and take off. I've seen it. That said, you can hook up a relay or bypass the clutch switch entirely. It's just a little more work.

This is what I want, just don't have the stones to do it myself. How does it bypass pressing the brake? I assume like it bypasses pressing a clutch for manuals?

Yea, the bypass has a built in module for brake bypass, but it is not needed on Golfs. The only VW that I can think of that would need it is the push-key style ignition CC.

No need for relay - the DB-ALL has the clutch bypass functionality built it. Needless to say, all that the bypass does is allow the car to start. Whether it was left in gear or not is irrelevant...you get the picture.

Didn't know that...pretty cool. It's been some years since I had remote start. I'd get one now but moved to a warmer climate.

do want! I'm just worried about leaving it in gear when I come home half asleep from school.

Would all of this apply to a 2012 Manual+Kessy GTI (aside from needing to be wired for a clutch)? If the firmware is the same version I'm going to order one ASAP.

edit: Why does it say in the dball installation guide "This product is NOT compatible with vehicles equipped with a manual transmission."?

Yea, firmware is the same.

Because it isn't compatible it the sense that if you leave the car in gear and remotely start it, it will jerk. There is no safety features built in.

Just read the whole thread on Vortex...

Yeah I read through that thread. Guess I'll be ordering the module as an early Christmas present to myself.

Where did you put the module under the dash? Is it just tucked up somewhere?

Yea I just zip tied it under there beside steering column.

One more question (sorry)

When the car has been started, if you press lock 3 times again will the car shut off?
