Removing Golf R Tails

Dumb question, when I remove the Golf R tails and go back to stock, will I have to recode via VAGCOM again?

Thanks!

Probably not. The vagcoding is set to read the tails as having a lower wattage output. Low enough to trigger the bulb out error. By vagcomming for the LED tails, you're pretty much telling the ECU not to worry about the tail lights anymore, when it comes to checking for burnt out bulbs.

Now if you vag'd on the rear fog, then yes, you will need to undo the coding for that, and also remove the trigger wire in the ECU, etc.

Why are you removing them btw, and what price you looking to sell them for?

Selling the car, not sure how much I am going to ask for them. They have been on the car about 6 weeks, but will be in the classifieds soon. Probably a little less than the group buy amount.

What will you be getting to replace it?

I was thinking about this also. I might be buying the Fiat 500 Abarth when it comes in a few months. I had my tails in for over a year already.

To set back to factory default, change byte 18 to 03 and then 00. Alternatively you could just leave it as is if you don't care for bulb out detection for the rear lights. Preps the car for the next owner to get LED tails :D

Nothing. I have a company car and really don't drive the GTI as much any more. I hate to just leave it sitting all the time.

Damn that sucks, I'm guessing the chemistry between you and your GTI is lost.
Either that or your company car is something special :D

Still love the GTI. But travel a lot so it sits most of the time. And the company car is nothing special. The GTI always has that chemistry;)

I see, that makes sense.

Changed out the tails today, got the bulb out error initially. Turned the car off, restarted it, the error was gone. Then started it again, bulb out was back on.

It has not reappeared. That is really weird. I thought it would not trigger any errors at all. Also at night, the outer bulbs seem a little bit dimmer than the inners ones. They work perfectly though.

Did I get too used to the LED tails?

Also, now the inner tails stay on when the lights are on and you raise the hatch. They did not do this before. Not a big deal, but just wondering.....

Thoughts anyone?

I think that you should code byte 18 back to the stock value to make all the exterior lights work properly.
