Replacement summer tires

Anyone have to replace one of their tires? And if so what did you do--buy a single of the same brand (Contact2 in my case) or a pair of another brand (which one)?

Oh my. Never replace one tire with a different brand than the other three. Some people believe it's OK to have different brands per axle (i.e. contis up front, bridgestone rear), but it's horrible practice and will not yield maximum performance out of your GTI.

Also, depending on how worn your tires are, I would replace the tire on the opposite side, too. So, if it's your front left, replace both fronts.

It's just not worth it to cheap out on tires.

i agree with Mattthecarnut,

Well... if your axles have the same tire on each side with approximately the same rating I doubt that most people would even notice on the street. I used to do this on a 911 when I switched brands or models and it worked fine. At worst there would be a slight difference in front/rear traction but it was negligible. Thanks for your answer all the same.
