Retrofit Cruise Control - 2012 MK6 Golf GTI, DSG, CCZB

Hi All,

I own a 2012 MK6 Golf GTI which didn't come with cruise control as standard and I've been thinking about Retrofitting, however I'm not sure whether I need to change the steering control module or just buy the stalk and apply the coding required...

According to Obdeleven I currently have 5K0953549A listed as the module installed.

Does anyone know whether the above steering control module is compatible with just changing the stalk or will I need to replace it?

I do know that if I install steering control module part number: 5K0953549B it will work and I can pick one up with both stalks for relatively cheap on eBay UK but rather not go through the hassle of changing out the whole thing if my current module will do the job.

Any information on the subject will be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Hi, i've just retrofitted cruise control to my 2011 GTI which didn't come with cruise from factory - I can see lots of "how-to" guides for cars prior to 2010 that only need the 1 stalk to be changed but nothing for our 2010+ cars. I managed to source the required parts off eBay - Stalk PN: 5K0953507BC and slip ring PN: 5K0953549E. The reason for this is that i checked with VCDS and couldn't code CC on my existing parts - as you may have found video on YT where it says you can try and code before fitting and it may accept the coding - That said i found a brilliant step by step guide on a Scirocco forum and this was the bible i used...

Heres the link http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/roccopedia/pdfs/HOW_TO_-_Retrofit_Cruise_Control_10MY.pdf

The answer to your question marcomarco is i think you may need a new slip ring as this is the info from Ross-tech wiki:

Part Number 5K0-953-549

Control Module Part NumberVariantNotes
5K0-953-549Lowline#3
5K0-953-549-AMidline#1
5K0-953-549-BHighline-
5K0-953-549-CMidline-
5K0-953-549-DHighline#1
5K0-953-549-EHighline#2

so id go with the "B" module :)

Hope this helps buddy

Thanks for your reply mate. Glad you managed to sort it. 👍🏼

I managed to get mine sorted too, it's been working great for 2 weeks now. At first I thought that all I needed was the indicator with the CC buttons but upon dismantling the steering column it turned out both the stalks are a part of one piece so I couldn't just change the indicator. Also the part number ending A does not work with CC, it just showed a message saying "coding not accepted".

After a bit of eBay searching I managed to pick up the B module/squib with both stalks for £30. This went in quite easily and through OBDEleven I was able to just tick the box to enable CC in Engine (01) and then also Steering Column (16).

I think the hardest part of the installation was removing the airbag. Rest of it was a piece of cake! 😁

Thanks!

Mate... You have no idea how excited I was once I finished the install. 😆

Im in the same boat - hahaha - the best thing is as theres loads of average speed cameras you can set the cruise and also on motorways i'm getting better MPG when using the CC

Late to the party, but I am experiencing this. How do you know which module is correct for your car when retrofitting?

Any help is appreciated

I had mine retro-fitted by a guy from Dartford way , was really helpful with coding some other stuff while he fitted the parts on the car. I bought the bits from him on eBay and arranged when he could install. Took him all of about 40 mins if that
