REVO Stage 1 / GFB DV+/ Unitronic CAI Review

Just recently started to mod my 2010 CSG 2.0T CBFA GTI. I can comfortably say I am a noob and starting to learn more about cars as I go so hopefully this info helps someone looking to go the same route in modifications.

I will start with a review on the Unitronic CAI for this model since there doesn't seem to be many. The intake is AMAZING...the sound is great and the build quality is difficult to beat. I will say though that installation was cake up until I got to attaching the intake to the turbo inlet. It does not precisely fit in on the 2010 models so you have to angle it a bit and then clamp it but to do this on your own is a pain in the ass. I had to seek the help of my friend and even that took several attempts at getting the fitment correct. Eventually the damn thing got on and everything was secure. What I like most is the blow off sound this intake gives off. It is definitely not a quite intake so keep that in mind when purchasing.

Now after installation of the Unitronic CAI i got the dreaded high pitch whine/whistle noise that everyone complains about. At first I didn't mind it but eventually it started to drive me crazy so I hit the forums and everyone seems to have a difference of opinion on this so I will give my accurate experience. Most seemed to indicate a DV upgrade solves this issue so since the GFB DV+ was not too expensive I decided to give it a try. Installation was cake except for the solenoid plug. This thing was a bitch. My first attempt at removing it ended up breaking the flat housing contact that allows the plug to clip into the solenoid. So after a 20$ replacement part cost and about another 93$ for VW to replace it I made my second attempt at it, FYI do not attempt to remove this unless you have experience at removing connectors. Practice first. Anyway, finally installed it and took the car out for a test drive. Noise is completely gone. I originally had a G DV and replacing that corrected it, now i'm not saying that this is the solution but it worked for me.

My last review is on the REVO Stage 1 flash. It is like night and day driving my car. I used 3zero3 motorsports in CO and have not had any issues with customer service at all. Also it has now been 4 months since the flash and have not had any problems with the car. The torque this flash gives is very noticeable and the horsepower gains are just as nice. I currently do not have any DYNO results for you guys yet but will include that in probably a couple of weeks since I cannot find any that are complemented with the Unitronic CAI. But honestly I drive like an ass, WOT constantly and this flash is definitely pleasing to me so despite the possible DYNO results its totally worth the price for the gains felt on just a flash IMO.

If anyone is interested in a video of the sounds the intake gives off just reply and I can post one.

Nice! I live in Thornton and I'm parting out my car. I have a used Unitronic downpipe and catback for sale. I also have a set of brand new Koni yellow shocks and a set of used Eibach pro springs. I'd rather not ship and will give you a good deal on any of it. Let me know.

Oh and I own an AWD dyno and would gladly help you out with some dyno pulls if you're interested.

Good tune & intake choice.

I have a pretty extensive modified GTI (literally a track DD) and not to far from you. I'll be in Denver this Tuesday @3ZERO3 Motorsports if you want to hang out.

Hmm I've been interested about getting rid of my SPM Track Edition exhaust for a Unitronic, I'll pm you a price/condition/pictures. I would be interested in a dyno as well if thats possible, currently on VP Racing Fuels 100 octane with Revo Stage 3 K04.

Nice write up! Just as a bit of advice: when dealing with the clips on the car, pull/lift the entire piece towards the side where the clip is. It makes it way easier to unclip.
