Short grinding noise just after start up

Hi team - my 2010 MK6 R has a little gremlin at the moment, it emits a reasonably loud grinding noise briefly just after start up. I videoed it below (I hope OneDrive links are allowed...)

https://1drv.ms/v/s!Asetj3MTbmAf9VAvKAH2cKP4W-IT

It turns over fine, and afterwards drives normally.

The other pattern to note is that the car only emits the noise when it's cold.

My local VW dealer have just replaced the starter motor, but that doesn't seem to have helped.

Thoughts? And thanks.

Well you probably should have trouble shot it. Not just been a parts changer That is usually verifiable and an easy thing to check.
It could be numerus serious things then or not that was low Hanging fruit take it into a shop.

It's looking like its the oil pump, the shop identified it as the starter motor, which is no longer the case.

I see a Segway e-scooter!

man that sounds bad... I hope you get it fixed.

I'm always listening to my car when I turn over the engine, usually cold start, if needed, I record a video.

i ended up getting a second opinion first place was estimating around $4000 for an oil pump, second place replaced the oil pressure sensor + oil change for $185.
always.... ALWAYS get a second opinion no matter what. Happy to hear this. Enjoy the ride.

Yea but an oil change and a sensor change will not fix a mechanical noise. I call BS unless oil is Marvels but that be a band aid fix.

EA113 oil pumps are expensive because they also house the balance shafts. I believe the pump is NLA IIIRC it's like $2600 from dealer.

Still no issues bud, but now that I say this, watch my engine explode.

just be prepared.... for anything such as expensive car repairs... life is full of surprises, but you can always tell when your car is about to give you trouble, all you have to do is listen (with your eyes, nose, touch, ears).

easier said than done, I know, I'm working on it, ttyl
