Splash Guards

Anybody got em? Pictures, pros/cons? Are they worth it?

I assume you refer to mud flaps that protect the sides from getting sprayed with stone/dirt etc.?

Anyway, I believe all cars in Sweden are delivered with this mounted, at least mine was.

Some pics available here. You can see front mud flaps. Have the same spec but not my car.

I cannot say anything negative about it either, blends well with the car.

Yes, I have them. My dealer sold me the protection package for $150.

Pros - I like the way they look but am wavering a little on this

Cons - they do seem to collect snow and ice build up

I will post a pic later.

You mean mud guards? Then yes they're defo worth it. With all the snow we've been getting recently, it's amazing to see all the snow/slush built up onto them after a journey:w00t:. I always give them a kick to clear for the next drive too:thumbsup:. I think they look good as well. I've have pics of my car, but for some reason can't get them off my phone at the moment:eek:. When I do, I shall post....

I put them on myself after i collected the car. I think they give the car a sportier look as it tends to make the car look lower.

They do look well on the MK6 Golf IMHO and they keep the dirt down as well.:)

Thanks guys... Yea, the mud guards.... it's an option in the States.

So, the consensus is they work well, huh... I was originally concerned about the way they look. Anybody know if they're easy to remove/add? -- that way I can take em off in the spring and add em back in the fall.

I'd love to see some pictures of cars that have them up front and in the rear.

Thanks again.

Well DStill put his own on, but my dealer fitted mine when I bought the car 'cos they said they had to take the wheels off to do so:iono:. I'm sure if you're practical, you'll manage. Me....????

Part of the deal with buying a car in central Canada. Glad I have them, our city uses salt, sand and a calcium carbonate mixture, in differing ratios depending on ice/snow/melt....

The hatch still gets drrrty rrrlly fast, regardless. haha. I could get a pic if you wanted, but I suggest you get' em. Easy to DIY and sell if you dislike down the road.

Yer, it did entail removing the wheels but if you follow the instructions in the kit with the mud flaps its pretty straight forward. It did take about an hour or so but that was at a leisurely pace.:w00t::thumbsup:

I had these Kamei style mud guards on a Rabbit and the fenders rusted out underneath the part mounted over the fender.

Glad I found this thread. When I bought the car, I didn't think much of getting the splashguards. Now that it's winter though, I'm realizing how important they are. I'm spending time and money to get the salt from the roads washed off my car, only to wind up with big rooster tails of salt residue back on my doors half an hour later. The roads weren't even wet/snowy. The wet tires from the washing are just picking the stuff up and throwing it all over the side of my car. I get there's not much to be done about the hatch, but this side mess needs to get fixed. :)

A couple of things:

1. For those that installed them after, did they come with instructions? [edit: never mind. just read the post that talked about instructions in the kit. :)]

2. For those correcting fokker, VW indeed calls them splashguards and not mud flaps.
