Thanks to Andrew for the install and writeup.
ABOUT:
For the longest time we assumed the fluttering around 4k rpms was normal and acceptable on my K04 setup and we just lived with it. Looked into several other companies solutions for the DV replacement to alleviate the boost flutter and the thing that continued to drive me away from them was it did away with the electric valve and relied solely on vacuum pressure in the intake manifold. That to me was not acceptable as it couldn't dump boost in the event of a problem, other than when you let off the gas.
GoFastBits based out of Australia had a solution. Using a brass plunger which won't bleed by, a dual spring system, and pilot pressure setup to hold the plunger closed seemed to fit the bill. Ordered from ModdedEuros.com and received the product a few days later.
INSTALL:
Remove your oem DV from where ever you have it. For this install we're utilizing the APR K04 setup which will vary slightly, but the overall install is the same.
Take your now removed oem DV and take it to the work bench/kitchen table and prepare to break down the unit.
Remove the plastic plunger on the end by pulling apart firmly. This will expose a metal plunger and spring.
The GoFastBits kit supplies a new spring and plunger which will be installed in place of the oem ones.
After getting the new components swapped in grab the black DV housing and the new aluminum DV+ one and assemble together. There is an alignment hole on one of the tabs.
Now with your freshly upgraded unit proceed back to the car and slide under to install.
Here is where our install differed somewhat... The APR K04 kit uses the oem location for DV mounting, but it features a 10mm machined APR housing. That 10mm to the overall length makes 1 of the 3 supplied bolts too short. The length provided by APR was M6x1.0 35mm. and by adding the 10mm GoFastBits DV+ the bolt becomes too short. We didn't feel comfortable using a bolt too short as it would possibly put stress on too few threads in that hole.
The fix we found was buying a M6x1.0 50mm long Allen headed bolt to replace the one supplied with the kit. This allows you to thread all the way into the housing and not have too few threads holding the DV+ in place.
Once you get all bolts seated, tighten by hand until snug. Remember this is aluminum and will strip if torqued too much. Plug in the connector and Slide out from under the car, remove all tools.
Start the car and let it warm up. Check for boost leaks or any other issues before and then take for test drive.
IMPRESSIONS:
One immediate difference we noticed was the way boost came in. The car pulls and pulls where it used to be a bit more sluggish. The way GoFastBits designed this device was to bleed off only the minimum amount of boost to keep the compressor from surging. So, that means if you are quick enough you don't drop nearly as much boost -- watching my boost gauge it drops to about -10 on vacuum, rather than the full -21 like the oem Revision D valve does.
The fluttering around peak boost is gone, as this device truly holds boost and doesn't bleed by.
