The Random / "Stupid" Questions Thread

Yes it should prevent it.

I have used a 9V battery and an adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter to keep cars from reseting when changing out the battery.

Alright so on my way to work today on the highway. Switching over to the left lane to make a pass so I'm pushing the car a bit and suddenly a wooosh and loss of most if not all boost pressure. I was able to get to work and park but staring in from the top of the engine bay didn't yield anything too obvious. I'm at work so I can't dive under it right now. P3 gauge was reading super high boost levels at to moderate throttle so i assume this is a pretty massive leak. After a shut off and restart, car throws P0101 which indicates a bad MAF but I'm leaning to disconnected intercooler piping. I shook the intake to see if it was loose at all but it didn't seem like it.

For context, just had my dsg replaced as well as condenser, compressor, and evap. I thought that whoosh sensation was my new dsg slipping gear into oblivion at first but not likely given no obvious code. Sure was a serious drop in power. DV is old but it's not the diaphragm type DV. It's definitely the D valve revision.

Assuming I find nothing as an obvious culprit. Is there anything I can run in vcds to deduce the actual problem or where to start looking?

The issue was made very clear once I got the car home and looked underneath. Oil drip pools just under the IC outlet to TB pipe. Peeking behind the splash shield, the IC hose had come completely disconnected. The T clamp was tight enough, but I was able to make it a bit tighter with the right socket. Boosts good now. No issues after that, but I was most definitely concerned all day. I figure they had to disconnect the TB hose in order to get to the DSG. Hopefully it stays put this time.

I put in a NEW clutch kit, if I don't drive the car, every day, will it damage anything? I know it is a stupid question...

I will drive the car every 5 days, need to recover the money I spent on the car >_<

From my googling that code is really only associated with the radiator sensor? I guess you could monitor coolant temps and exhaust temps and see what they are doing.

No it can sit.

I would highly suggest doing a ripper of a burnout in first and second before letting the car sit.
This is satire.

It's triggered by an "implausible" temperature delta between the radiator sensor and the regular coolant temp sensor. From what I've read that could be too big of a delta, too small of a delta, or too constant of a delta.

So, could be that the radiator sensor/wiring is going bad or could be that coolant isn't circulating 100% properly - thus some people have fixed it by replacing the rad and some people fixed it by replacing the water pump/tstat.

I have not yet gone digging in to OBD11 to see what channels are available.

the neighborhood I live in is a school zone, low speed limits, it is close to a major highway but a lot of speed cameras and red light camera's, so I have to drive like a grandma anyway

Ok, perfect, I won't let it sit for too long because it's bad for the tires...

LOL hey I already did some pulls up until 4K RPM, damn BMW's always wanna race, I stopped doing this, and I did some pulls under tunnels, it's so hard not to full send/WOT...
But I understand the clutch needs to break in and I must keep it grandma driving until 1,000 miles.

Those of you who went with aftermarket Euro tails requiring an adaptor/decoder box: where did you hide the boxes? Inside the hatch or trunk trim?

Previous owner did the euro tails but the decoder boxes are just hanging out in the open in my trunk. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to hiding them somehow.
