Tiguan anyone?

We have a Tiguan and my GTI. I enjoy driving the tiggy as it has some balls compared to other smaller SUV's and it surprises some people! The fact that parts are interchangeable too make it an added bonus... We have the FWD version though and it's still a beast in the snow and great on gas.

To clarify, my selling my Tiguan has nothing to do with the performance parts. It LOVED the K04, AT never slipped, worked great. My recommendation to you is to DO IT, you'll love it.

Interesting Tiguan build!!

You highly reccommend that I do it.......yet, after only a few months of building yours, (with half of that being in the shop for CEL's)......and now you are bailing/selling?

Not exactly encouraging.

Unfortunately, I am not nearly as auto mechanically inclined as some of you guys.

I am looking for something reliable and this will be my DD

None of that had to do with the cars mods, it was the car, and it hasn't stopped, and its why Carmax is getting it in the next 7 days.

Why didn't you like the G37? I've driven a couple and always enjoyed doing so.

I have a Tiguan, as well as the GTI, and we love it to bits. Traded in a Mazda CX-7 for it.

I think the C&D articles are bogus. A lot of it is based on price, but IMO, the inside of the Japanese cars are terrible. They're fine, don't get me wrong, but this Tiguan (fully loaded) is superb IMO. We got the 19" sport package (its a '12 - so before the R line came out) and the ride is a touch rough, I will admit...but we're not old balls...its fine at the end of the day. Corners better than a CX-7 (which was noted for its cornering and brakes), and is way more attractive than a CRV or RAV4.

Agree - its a great mix of fun/useful/fuel-efficient. Mine is on 18's and tinted and debaged and looks pretty badass! Plenty of room for what we need it for and its done a bunch of 5-6 hour road trips no problem.

Had a CX-7 which I traded for the GTI. The Mazda was the biggest POS. turbo blew 2 days after Xmas. Had to get towed. Spent 6 weeks in a war with Mazda for them to honor the warranty. Less than a month later the VVT went. At that point I was done. Well known for sludge issues and they even stopped making it.

Will never go near a Mazda again. After service from Mazda USA was shocking.

I have both as well...my suggestion...

Buy a 2010-2011 pre-facelift SEL, 4Motion, with the RNS-510 Certified Pre-Owned which can be bought for around $26,000. The reason for it is the 2012 (IMO) became uglier and the gearbox was redone to shift earlier + a taller 5th and 6th gear. It ruined a lot of the fun factor.

I recently installed Conti. DWS tires on my Tiguan and I can't even begin to describe how it changed the car compared to stock tires that were on there. It rides beautifully now and sticks to the road like glue.

Not sure what your budget is, but you might want to consider the BMW X1. The AWD version starts at $32.5K plus delivery. An SE AWD Tiguan starts at $31.1K.

I saw one on the road, but I have no idea on interior dimensions...

Just threw it our as a suggestion because it seems to tick all the right boxes - AWD, turbo, german engineering, upright driving position and is slightly bigger (I think) than the GTI.

Don't do it. The tiguan is way too expensive, and unlike the class competitive GTI, it isn't really all that competitive with other vehicles in the CUV class. It also feels cramped and tiny inside. If you want another VW get a GTI. If you want a small SUV look elsewhere.

I almost I got rid of my FJ Cruiser and bought a Tig. My only problem was that the only version that comes in manual transmission is the base model. That would have been fine if the interior didn't look and feel insanely cheap.

I read all this stuff too, as our warranty was expiring and we got rid of it. It was a very nice CUV, but I was worried about the turbo and the harmonics of the engine ruining every single gasket possible. These had a lot of trouble with certain engine parts just wearing out prematurely. I had zero service issues...just didn't want to dump several grand into it. Plus, I was the second owner and I had no clue what the previous guy did to maintain it. It was in good shape, but engine maintenance is crucial on the CX-7

That's a weird comparison. The tiguan is too tight, so get a GTI? The Tiguan is better than the other class vehicles...its just way more expensive. You can read the reviews and they're all "The tiguan is better...but you pay for it". Like everything in life, you get what you pay for.
