Total Power Steering, Brake Assist Failure

Hi all,

I'm experiencing an "ESP Error" everytime I start the car, with a brief moment of no power steering, and no/limited brake assist. What usually happens is that the power steering and brake assist happen for less than a second, and then I have no TCS or ESP for 1-2 minutes while driving. However, sometimes when I am taking a turn, my power steering will fail and the steering wheel will feel extremely heavy or jammed, and this has gotten me close to an accident in a moderate-speed turn. This is what VAGCOM says:

Are you still under warranty? This may be some sensor fails that may get costly.

I am still under the powertrain warranty, hope this is covered. Wondering where the sensors are? Last thing I did before this happened is the Tyrolsport Master Bracket. Intercooler 2 months ago, dropped subframe in June.

It seems like a harness or ground issue judging by the open circuit errors. I'm not sure on the specifics on the wiring so it would be probably be best to work with a dealer.

My error started when the stock battery started to go bye bye, but my new battery rests at 12.65 volts, versus the stock that was resting at 12 volts prior to its replacement.

I'm in controls. 9 times out of 10 communication issues are down to the harness. 8 times out of 10 the connector needs to be unplugged and plugged back in.

It was a loose ground at the front of the engine bay. 16mm, tightened it right up. Issue never came back.

do you know where it was? under a headlight or somewhere else? i'm having similar issues as well.

yeah i did a wire tuck and have gone through several of them. but for example, i had to add a ground to my passenger side harness under the headlight to get my foglights working. so if there is a specific ground needed to get the steering angle sensor working, i'd love to just splice in another lower gauge wire.

Meh. Mine did it again this morning. I'm dreading bringing it back to the dealership only to have them tell me that nothing is wrong, yet again.

I guess it is time to start looking for a different car.

2009 MKV's are infamous for having ABS Control module problems. Your symptoms look similar. I would get the same set of CEL's when braking hard into a corner. Had to replace ABS Module not covered under warranty.

It was the ground in front of the transmission mount (16mm white nut) for me.
