I have used giac, dm, uni and currently apr. All work fine. While you can see differences that look significant on paper at the Stage 1/2 level, the driving experience is really not that significant.
Although you can certainly drive the car just fine without a dsg tune, I like the ones that will completely hold gears when I drive manually, makes for more fun at track. Otherwise if you drive in auto mode all time then it’s nice because it cures the minor issue of the dsg hunting between gears that can occur under cruising with partial throttle.
Stage 1 and 2 pretty much no secrets anymore, knowledge widespread and been out there for years. i currently run APR Stage1 over other brands of Stage 1because it is only tune legal in Calif.
