Turbo Timer

Carbon Blir

Ready to race!
So I used to have a car with a cutom turbo... now with that i had a turbo timer to let the car "cool" down a little before i was shut off.
With the GTI's coming stock turbo and they dont tell you to wait to turn off your car is it needed? :23:

Nope, not really. The 2.0T is designed with not only oil cooling but a forced coolant circulation system. Other than some common sense (don't come in off a really hard run, rev it to 5,000 rpm then shut it down) there's not a whole lot you need to worry about in that department. The car will circulate coolant and activate fan as needed. Plus, modern lubrication has come a LONG way in the past 10 years. Not that much worry about coking issues unless you're running a big turbo kit and/or a heckuva lot more boost that the factory settings. I try and take it easy the last 3-5 minutes driving to wherever I'm going and typically give it 15-30 seconds at idle to completely spin down but that's about it.

ahhhhh - knew this was posted somewhere. Many thanks to Arin @ APR for hosting this. TSI summary and technical specs.

and from page 27 of that TSI book: "After-Run Coolant Pump V51 protects the turbocharger bearings from overheating after engine shut-off.

The pump is activated by the engine control module based on programmed characteristic maps."

Good to know; I have been idling for about 30 sec before shutting it off even driving it mildly at the end.
