Yesterday I met up with another forum member who gave me their old AC kit. I'll probably do that before the turbo, but I might do them at the same time for the extra clearance. Thanks @smanierre

Replaced my door speakers today. Really wasn't bad, the only casualty of the whole job was one plastic door pin. Unfortunately it sounds like that only partially fixed the blown out audio, I think my tweeters are gonzo. Time to hit up a junkyard, I guess!

They're $25 speakers; they sound okay, not great--better than stock, for sure. They're only meant to replace blown ones on my extremely tight budget. I'd love to do a full audio upgrade, but $60 for everything was already more than I wanted to spend.

I was planning to rivet it back in but I didn't feel like going to buy a rivet gun, and the speakers came with usable hardware. All I had to do was grind slots into the door (don't mind the fact it looks like shit) to slip these cheap clips on (only one stripped out). Silicone baffle and an adapter off amazon. Drilled a hole to run the adapter neatly.
Nice work - I need to open up my front doors to fix the window squeal (It's horrible), did you mess with the window motor at all?

Well I'm at my garage away from home and I'm amazed that this car is alive sometimes. Here's some discoveries I made while pulling it apart to replace the turbo:

This line was completely pinched. Likely was me, could've been the mechanic, hard to know at this point. It's destroyed but I should have a spare... Now to find it.
By the by, does anyone know what this line controls? It looks like it's coming off the vacuum pump and going to the intake runner flap actuator, but I'm just guessing; please CMIIW.

My forward/back linkage... Completely floating. No wonder shifting was uninspiring and sloppy! Gotta give some love to the shop that replaced that shift tower. (But ftr it went in with the hardware you see, 7 bolts)

So I've got that to look forward to on top of my turbo :) but hey, it's improvement. I expand on the job and goals more here

Isn't that how the shift linkage is supposed to work?

what... really... I thought it was just mine... ya I don't think it would be an issue... it just looks weird looking at it from an angle

I followed you on IG! (@supreme_gti)
Yeah as long as it's sealed and not leaking it should be fine. The way it hooks up you can probably wiggle it around since it's just pressed over an o-ring with a retaining clip holding it in place. Thanks for the follow!

Turbo officially fully disconnected, but not out. I have one bolt on my heart shield that I stripped. I tried wedding the turbo out through the bottom but the subframe is in the way. I'm thinking I need to sharpen the star of a T45 and hammer it into the bolt.

As for why my turbo died, I'm suspecting my turbo blanket was a root cause, or at least the improper installation was. It looked like I had wrapped it diagonally across both the hot and cold sides, essentially making a chimney that might've cooked the cold side. Maybe I'll know more when I get it out and open.
