Hi Everyone,

mk6 gti stock battery is a 60Ah 12V lead acid battery. I heard that it weight 40-50 lbs. I am thinking to upgrade to a lightweight racing battery, which has 16Ah only. I don't drive on weekday. will it be a problem for me as lead acid battery slowly discharge itself?

btw, which lightweight battery you are running? any advice and recommend?

Thank you!

I've been running the Deka ETX16L for ~3 years. Extreme warm and cold climates, I drive daily and put on at least 15-20k miles a year. Never has given me much of an issue, unless I was working on the car and left all the doors open for HOURS at a time. Besides that, reliable as hell. Has started the car multiple times in negative degree weather.

I would also recommend a trickle charger if you don't drive your car everyday. If you want to spend big bucks they have LiPo batteries also but they are like $500

Hmm, that Deka ETX-16L has sparked my interest. I've been looking at going to a rear mounted lightweight battery ever since I decided I want an Accusump. Looks pretty perfect to me

Interesting thread. Ice been looking for a light weight battery that would also give me a little more room.

Problem is a double duty the car, drive 25k miles a year and have an amp and sub. Will the Deka etx-16l do it?
