Yet another 18x8.5 ET45 fitment post

Hello folks,

I'm a Mk2 guy from VW Vortex back in the day. A few years back I treated myself to a CPO 2014 Drivers Edition GTI. I know nothing about wheels/stance/fitment.

I'm currently getting the itch to get a set of wheels and a cup kit.

Im interested in the Koni sport cup kit from ECS tuning, around a 30MM drop all around. (https://www.ecstuning.com/b-koni-parts/sport-cup-kit-adjustable-dampening/1145-1067/)

I'm also planning to buy a set of 18x8.5 wheels, running new tires (stock size) 225/40/R18. I've been thinking of ET45

Will I rub? Does anyone have a simular set up with photos I can look at?

I see this has been covered over and over, but most of the links i find are dead photos, or people debating if the car will rub.

I live in NYC now, so I need to keep a the car functional.

Many thanks!

If I'm reading your post correctly, 18x8.5 +45 with 225 tires will absolutely not rub.

Won’t rub as long as the drop is minimal. Search for photos of VMR 710 wheels on a GTI. Most are 18x8.5 et45. If you go too low you’ll need to roll fenders. A 235 will rub at low heights if you hit a bump when turning, even with fenders rolled.

I run 255/35/18 Indy 500's (which tend to run narrow) on my 18x8.5 et45 and will only rub inside fender liner when the wheels are fully turned. You should have zeros issues with that set-up

VMR 710's 19X8.5 et45 225/35/19. You will rub in the rear at extreme corning if lowered. I am 24.5" from fender to ground. (old pic by the way). I am getting to Restore it. It has been in storage for the past 3 years.

Just put these on yesterday. 18x8.5 et45, 225/40, no rubbing at all yet on a long long drive today, lowered on BC racing coil-overs.

These wheels look great!
