Powering is quite simple.
I bought one of these:

and crimped it to, as you mentioned, one of these:

These "Add-a-Fuses" are nifty. I have used them to power USB ports, CB radios, and radar detectors in my vehicles with great success. You just need to find a fuse slot that is "accessory" (rather than constant power). I forget which exact slots these are in the TDI but that info is somewhere on the forum.
