It will definitely not go back to your giac tune. It'll replace it with a stock like file. I say stock like, as I don't think it reverts your ECU to an exact bit for bit copy of the original stock...

Yeah, VCDS will save you a lot of time and aggravation by being able to set readiness within 10-15 minutes.
