As long as the oil isn't leaking through, you can clean it up and paint it. I wouldn't let that deter you if the car is otherwise good.

I broke it loose with a 2 foot bar, 4 foot should have been easy. Wouldn't recommend a screwdriver in the rotor though, I had the wheel on the ground with the center cap removed.

Don't know about DSG, but we pulled both axles and subframe when we did it. Passenger side axle hub(?) on the transmission had to come off too. More clearance the better.
