Meh...it shouldn't be such a big deal as long as it's fixed.

It's the trade off for getting the latest technology (DSG)

That recall has nothing to do with Engine seizing up.

Summary:
VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 AND 2010 PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2008 AND AUGUST 2009. THE WIRING HARNESS OF A TEMPERATURE SENSOR IN THE DIRECT SHIFT GEARBOX (DSG) MAY HAVE CONNECTOR WIRES THAT WERE INSUFFICIENTLY CRIMPED. WITH INSUFFICIENTLY CRIMPED CONNECTOR WIRES, A TEMPERATURE SENSOR HAS THE POTENTIAL TO FALSELY DETECT A HIGH GEARBOX OIL TEMPERATURE, CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO ABRUPTLY SHIFT TO NEUTRAL. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE SELECTOR LEVER POSITION INDICATOR WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL FLASH. IN ADDITION, THE "DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL" INDICATOR LIGHT WILL BE ILLUMINATED, ALERTING THE DRIVER TO APPLY THE BRAKES.

Oh sweet, strange engine vibrations and a RVU on my VIN? Between this and the rattles this is probably the worst new car I could buy.

Wow never noticed this thread. Any news on this?

i second that, VW just won engine of the year last year with the 1.4 TSI why would they mess up now with one of their popular cars here in the US?

How many awards has Toyota won?

From what the original thread said, it is not a recall and not all cars are affected. All cars in the vin range have to be driven a certain way during the PDI (pre-delivery inspection) by the dealer for 20-30kms. Cars with the issue will have the problem show immediately.

A poster of the information said it was a RVU (Required Vehicle Update)...and someone defined the RVU as industry slang for something you don't tell the customers about unless they complain about an issue with their car.

Yeah, there's an RVUTB for US models only. It also is only for unsold vehicles... if the engine was going to fail prematurely it would/should have been found during the PDI. And if it does go down the road it better be before 100,000km...

The RVUTB states that:
"Improved production processes have been implemented."
